Zeta Prematurity Awareness Sunday

Program Overview

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., in partnership with the March of Dimes, will launch Zeta Prematurity Awareness Sunday on November 16, 2003.

Zeta Prematurity Awareness Sunday serves as our sorority's effort to support the March of Dimes in their five-year, $75 million prematurity campaign.

The campaign goals are to:

* Increase public awareness of the problem of prematurity
* Decrease incidence of premature birth

During Zeta Prematurity Awareness Sunday, the Pastor, a designated church member, or a member of the Zeta family shares information with the congregation about prematurity. We have prepared a short script to be used. The entire presentation should last no more than five to 10 minutes. Information can also be included in church bulletins, newsletters or on bulletin boards. Sample church announcements are included in your program tool kit.

In addition to our focus on prematurity, the March of Dimes will extend the message across the country on Tuesday, November 18 when the organization launches its first national Prematurity Awareness Day with an online campaign to alert Americans to this escalating health problem. By clicking on the March of Dimes Web site (www.marchofdimes.com) on November 18, visitors will register their concern for the more than 470,000 babies born too soon each year. March of Dimes volunteers across the country will kick off the online campaign by each asking 10 of their friends to visit the site, click for research, and pass it on. CIGNA, a prematurity campaign sponsor, will donate $1 for each click, up to $150,000.
