Need your opinion
Ok, I need some help with this situation. Let me know your thoughts on it.
For my birthday (July 25), my boyfriend gave me a $300 necklace, had 25 long stemmed roses delivered to my work, and took me out to dinner. I of course loved all of it. It was the necklace that I wanted, although I meant the $25 fake one from Claire's (its the diamond solitare circle that hangs on a gold chain.) My friends convinced him that he had to get me a real one. I would have been happy with going to dinner and spending time with him. Or the flowers. All of it was very out of character.
Now forward to Christmas. He says (and trust me, I DON'T CARE) that from the beginning, my necklace was my birthday and Christmas present. That's fine. I was going to spend a good amount of money on him anyway so I didn't care. As of today, I've spent $260. (Oh, I make about 20 grand less than he does)
The fact that I'm not getting anything big has turned into a community situation. ALL of our friends keep telling me that he isn't joking, I'm not getting a lot or anything big. I don't know how many times I can tell them that I DON'T CARE.
What I need an opinion on is this: I'm pissed that everyone views me as this materialist bitch. I'm beginning to get so mad at them since they bring it up in every friggin conversation. Am I overreacting? I'm about to tell my boyfriend to not give me anything. What do you think?
