Exclamation Intramurals

I am the Chapter Life VP for my chapter, and I am in charge of intramural. I am having trouble girls sign up and play, and we are losing games and having to forfeit because no one shows up. What do you girl/guys to for insensitive to play and sign up. At this point I just don't know what to do. Thanks for any help!

In future, perhaps you (or the person who succeeds you)can assess the chapter as to the interest they have in participating in intramurals generally, and each sport specifically. I think it is far worse to sign up for a sport and not be able to field a team, therefore forfeiting a game, than it is to just not field a team at all. If you don't have enough people to field a team (with some extras for substitutes) then don't do it at all.

In regards to trying to drum up interest now, I don't have any suggestions. Hopefully someone else will.

I would make it a priority in recruitment to recruit more women interested intramurals. You can't force people to play if they aren't interested. You can offer incentives like badge dangles, certificates, recognition at chapter meetings, entering participants in a raffle to win sorority swag, etc. Remain positive in trying to get participants; don't harass or yell at people and be appreciative of the members who do show up. As the spring semester is 1/2 over by this point, there's not much time left in the school year. So talk to the chapter during your recruitment workshop about the need to recruit more athletes or women interested in intramurals next recruitment so you'll have a larger pool of players.

Are intramurals a social "must" on your campus, i.e. every Greek organizztion has a team and those who don't are freakazoids? Or is it just something that you personally would like to see more interest in?

I would impress upon your sisters that you don't have to be an athlete to be in intramurals - the fellowship and fun and cameraderie within and between organizations are the main part of it. If you are all sucky athletes, turn your sucking into a badge of honor.
