A Fashionable Recruitment 2011
Hello [= you all have drawn me in with amazing recruitment stories of all your loved ones. Honestly, I have gone through all the ups and downs with all the Georgia and Auburn PNMs this week! So I decided to share my daughter's upcoming recruitment.
My daughter aka Zoe (for Rachel Zoe ha!) will be attending the wonderful University of Southern California. We are so excited for her as she comes from a large family of fellow Trojans. Fight On!
USC has ten sororities and nine will be participating in formal recruitment. The sororities are as follows:
Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Phi
Delta Delta Delta
Delta Gamma
Gamma Phi Beta
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Pi Beta Phi
Sigma Delta Tau
For my purposes they will now be known as:
Chanel
Gucci
Vuitton
Versace
Dior
Chloe
Prada
Escada
YSL
Burberry
Out of the above only YSL will not be participating in formal recruitment.
Zoe comes from a long line of Greeks. I was in a sorority (which I will not name for Zoe's privacy sake) and she has several affiliations both in sororities and fraternities. Zoe is a legacy at two of the houses, but after much observation over the years, I have warned Zoe that not much grace is given to legacy PNMs and to understand that it really won't be much of a factor one way or the other at USC. Zoe has managed to gather recs for most of the sororities and after many afternoons of shopping and lunch with her mom, (which I loved since she will be leaving for school soon) she is outfit ready!
Zoe is excited and I am so excited for her and nervous for her! So now all we have to do is wait...

LOVE Rachel Zoe! She is coming out with her own clothing line this month. I will never have money again.
Good luck!

btw I must apologize for my ridiculous user name. =P I had intended to be a lurker and just put in a random choice, but once I decided to post I had no idea how to change it. Live and learn! [=

I personally think it is great. I immediately thought of "The YaYa Sisterhood" and those hilarious new Greek Yogurt commercials ("YaYa says you are dressed like a prostitute!").
I hope your daughter has a wonderful time at SC. Just ask her not to become an obnoxious SC fan...LOL...(Cal alum here)

Perhaps we could agree that not ALL USC fans are obnoxious...but some are "overly spirited"? And could the SC Trojan Band POSSIBLY play that fight song a little more? LOL
Seriously, it would be great to see CAL fans exhibit the enthusiasm the SC fans show, though we do have our own unique style. It will be interesting to see how the addition of Utah and Colorado will change the PAC-10/12 dyamics.

Fight on!
My younger son graduated in 2007 and had a wonderful experience at USC. It was a big "gulp" for Mom & Dad, since he was 2000 miles away from home, but his dream from the time he entered high school was to attend USC. And we found the Trojan Family to be so incredibly warm and welcoming.
My son was wary of the Greek scene, (he's always prefered marching to his own beat) but I encouraged him to at least go through rush to experience the process, and now we tease him about what a gun-ho frat guy he morphed into. He's living in NYC now, but still very close to lots of his brothers, and will have a life long connection with them.
Best of luck to Zoe!

USC recruitment
I just heard that a lovely PNM that I recommended at USC was released from recruitment after the convo round!! To make matters worse,, she was re-rushing as a sophomore, which is really not an advantage at USC! She was offered a bid after last year's recruitment but made the decision not to accept it and re-rush as a sophomore. I knew that was a mistake. Especially at a school like USC which has a brutally competitive recruitment! This gal really wanted to be in a sorority, had the opportunity last year and didn't take it!
As it is said so often on GC, PNM's, if you really truly want to be in a sorority and you are offered a bid...TAKE IT!!!! Try it!! If the chapter is struggling a little, be a great member and try to turn things around! ALL of the sororities that we talk about on GC are awesome organizations. True, some chapters are bigger, stronger (whatever) on some campuses than they are on others. But, they all share the beautiful bonds of sisterhood, ritual and traditions!!! Be brave and take the leap of faith!! Accept the bid that you are offered and I doubt that you will regret it.
