Roy Hobbs, The Natural
Hey, hope y'all can help me!! In the Robert Redford movie, "The Natural", is the relief pitcher brought in the bottom of the ninth, the same kid that Roy is pitching the baseball to in the cornfield at the end?
Thanks!! The scene went by so fast, we couldn't tell. I didn't think it was the kid standing next to Glenn Close in the stands during the game.

No.
The relief pitcher in the 9th is a former bat boy Hobbs knew when he was a hot shot younger player.
The boy in the cornfield is his son.

Amy, did Redford direct that movie as well as star in it?
I loved the movie also, especially that final scene where he shatters the stadium lights . . .
It was such a guy movie, I'm glad some of the ladies liked it also.
Was it based on a true story? Does anyone know?

Barry Levinson directed it...right after he directed Diner.
Its not a true story...

. . . although the ending from the book is a little more powerful . . . and completely changes the point.

If you get the chance, read the book too...like KSigRC said, the ending is completely different, changes the whole point of the story. I love the movie, it's one of my favorites, but I've gotta say that the book is even better.

I've seen it so many times but never the beginning of the movie- why did the first lady shoot him?
