Happy Birthday Phi Beta Kappa!

Phi Beta Kappa Society was founded on December 5, 1776. It would be more than 100 years before women were admitted to membership. The first two female members of Phi Beta Kappa were initiates of the Lambda chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, Lida Mason and Ellen Hamilton Woodruff.
