Please be Brutally Honest

So I have been very bored with my college experience so far, and I feel that I am missing out. I am thinking about going through informal rush next semester but I am a sophomore right now. My personality also doesn't really scream fraternity member. I am kind of introverted and a little "preppy." I've spent most of my time in college getting my gpa close to perfect, preparing for law school, and participating in debate. As I said earlier, this is starting to bore me. I don't want to change my personality. I just want to have a little more fun after I finish studying and win a few rounds. I also don't think I am that much of a square. I have some charisma and can talk easily.

If this kind of person was trying to join your fraternity, what would you think?

If you came to a party and were nice, friendly, didn't show up drunk, didn't act like a d-bag, we'd probably take a chance on you.

But, that was my campus and my organization.

Are there any fraternity members in your classes or that you already know? Ask them about spring rush. Just ask some general questions about when it begins, what are the rush parties like, etc. They can give you some general knowledge.

Do not ask them if a guy like you can get a bid. That will come off as creepy and desperate. Just find out about the parties, show up, and be your friendly self. You'll find out if you are the type of guy to get a bid.

Also, go to more than one group. Don't set your sights on one group only or you could be severely disappointed come bid day.

My answer would be it depends on the school, the chapters at that school....

Each school and each chapter of each fraternity is unique to that part of the country....

In my fraternity I visited over 150 different chapters and met honestly about 150 different "types" of brothers. We were all part of the same fraternal family, but each set of guys at the chapters were from their own "world" where they lived.

Hope this makes sense....I think the best thing for you to do us not be concerned with what a bunch if faceless people have to offer, but go visit the guys at your school, go to the parties go to the bars go wherever the fraternity members hang out and get to know them as then determine if the fraternity life is for you and go through rush.

That's my brutal honesty..
