Should I mind my own business, or tell someone....
and if so, who?
So, I was walking through campus yesterday, minding my own business when a woman approached me and said "Hey, I saw you during Sorority Recruitment. You're FirstName, right?" I answered that I was, but unfortunately, I couldn't recollect her name. She gave me her name and
said that a specific NPC Sorority was going to colonize on campus this fall and that they were looking for interested PNM's. She stated that there would a meeting for interested women, next week and invited me to come.
Nice....but there is a problem. (Other than I am currently involved with recruitment with Blueberry and Strawberry.)
Being around recruitment this year, I know that I would have heard about any sorority colonizing. The last time one did, it was really big news and I wasn't even a student here back then. Also, I'd overheard someone asking the Greek Life Advisor during recruitment if our campus was open to expansion, and the advisor said "Absolutely not. Not for the foreseeable future."
So, what's the deal? Obviously, what this woman is doing isn't allowed. Then again, since I'm not Greek, I don't know what I could say/do.
How would all of you handle this?
Thanks

Reason: Switched PNM for PNM.

I say mind your own business... in the grand scheme of things, this is a drop in a bucket. Just not a big deal.

It's not "not allowed", in that she's not breaking some sort of rule, so I wouldn't worry about it. Either she has no idea how colonization works, or she thinks she is so awesome she will be able to get them to change the rules, but either way, it doesn't really affect anyone but her.

I'd stay out of it and enjoy your time with Blueberry and Strawberry.
This young woman is clearly not following proper procedure to bring another sorority to campus and you know that. Best to let her figure it out on her own and let Campus Panhellenic deal with it.

I'm going to let the entire thing be. That was my first inclination.
Thanks y'all.

On a side note, if the group she mentioned is a traditionally Jewish group, it's *possible* that they would end up on campus in a more roundabout way. Not likely, but possible.

Are you implying AEPhi and SDT have an easier time getting onto campuses?

I'm saying that sometimes, if there is strong interest for a historically Jewish/Jewish interest/non-denominational chapter on a campus without one, the expansion process can work out a little differently than it typically does, i.e. there may be an interest group formed with its sites set on a specific org, when, under normal circumstances, forming an interest group and/or picking an org in advance is a terrible idea.

I think she's implying that they are not always brought on through the standard NPC expansion process, since they are sometimes considered specialty sororities, if you will. Don't get your undies in a bunch. She didn't say anything offensive about the Jewish sororities.
And stay in your own lane.

I'm just asking for clarification because quite a few of our brothers want one of those chapters at our campus. The only thing close at our campus is DphiE

Not necessarily easier time but they don't always have to go through the expansion procedure.
It happen on my campus with an interest group called Epsilon Phi. They petitioned for a few years to AEPhi till they became a chapter.

Men wanting a chapter on a campus is different than women wanting a chapter on a campus.

Hahaha, yes, when I said "strong interest", I didn't mean from the frats.
As I said, it's not like it's some common thing, but I can think of more cases of local groups forming and then affiliating with AEPhi or SDT than all of the other NPC groups put together.

If you're curious, you could check with the Greek Life office. They'd know for certain if a new GLO were about to colonize. But, as you said, you most likely would have heard about it during formal recruitment - often, a colonizing group gives a presentation near the beginning of FR just to let all the PNMs know they're an option to take into consideration.
If I were you, I'd just keep going on with Blueberry's and Strawberry's recruitments.

I don't think having fraternity guys wanting a specific sorority to come on campus has any kind of effect at all.
Why do you call Delta Phi Epsilon similar?
