Unhappy Drastic Break-up Measures

Today I got my long hair chopped off. I haven't had short hair since 5th grade. I broke up with my long-time boyfriend and I guess I went overboard... ahhh, I need to know that I'm not alone? What other drastic measures have you all taken when you have just broken up with your boyfriend/girlfriend? And most of all, did it help??

I shaved my head once after a break up too. You're not alone. I hope you feel better.

Cool

Don't worry, Carolyn. Its called the "Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair" Syndrome.

Last time I broke up with a long-term boyfriend, I chopped my hair to a chin length bob and dyed it red!

But on the bright side...I met my husband a few weeks later and he said my hair was one of the first things he noticed! So to answer your question, yes! It helped! A lot!

Oh Carolyn, trust me when I tell you that I know how it feels to be going through what you're going through right now.

The day after Brady and I broke up I too chopped my hair off and I dyed it red. Luckily it didn't look too bad. In addition to the hair, I also spent a whole day at the mall and spent lots of money in an attempt to gain temporary happiness.

I hope you're doing okay right now, but if times still get tough, sometimes it feels good to just go out and take a walk...breathe some fresh air. If you need anyone to chat with, let me know because I'm always here to listen!

Hi Newbie,
I don't know you very well like other GCatters, but i just wanted to say I am sorry about what happened and feel for you. I don't know what happened and it is none of my business, but it sounds like you guys really like each other. Is it possible to "fix" whatever happened? Probably easier said then done.

Karen

I am also wondering, did you feel hollow when you two ended the relationship? I've had many break-ups before, but none really hurt like this. I'm probably gonna send an e-mail to you this weekend to talk or something, is that ok? Thank you so much
Sure thing Carolyn, feel free to email me anytime you like. I hope your days are going better!

damn, i feel bad as i now think "where the hell i've been?" as i read this thread.

im so sorry about what happened carolyn. but over the summer when i was getting over my own breakup you were one of the people that sat down,t alked and gave me advice--we even had our own thread going on--...remember how strong and encouraging you were back then? im sure you will be able get through this, no matter how hard, because you possess the best advice giving i've ever experienced... im sure you remember what you told me.

as far as drastic breakup measures go, i also cut my long hair to chin length, and i actually stopped eating. not coz i wanted to, but i really really couldnt find the appetite,e verytime i chewed im so tempted to throw it back up coz i didnt have desire to eat... it was so pathetic...

good luck carolyn, and remember im here if u need anything.

luv,
Cami

I guess us men don't do stuff like that? The cure for us is our friends taking us out to get drunk and laid. No hair chopping or shopping . . .

Wink

Yes Tom I dyed it red, but don't worry--it usually grows out in a few months! I can always dye it back to my natural color should you ever find yourself in Hawaii. Anything for Mr. Earp!

This seems right under this topic...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

...one old love
she can imagine
going back to...
and one who reminds
her how far she has come...

...enough money within her
control to move out and
rent a place of her own
even if she never wants
to or needs to...

..something perfect to wear if
the employer or date of her dreams
wants to see her in an hour...

...a youth she's content
to leave behind...

...a past juicy enough that
she's looking forward to
retelling it in her old age...

...a set of screwdrivers, a
cordless drill, and a black
lace bra...

..one friend who always makes
her laugh... and one who lets
her cry...

...a good piece of furniture
not previously owned by anyone
else in her family...

...eight matching plates,
glasses with stems, and a recipe
for a meal that will make her
guests feel honored..

..a feeling of control over
her destiny...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

..how to fall in love without
losing herself...

...how to quit a job,
break up with a lover,
and confront a friend
without ruining the friendship...
when to walk away...

...that she can't change the
length of her calves, the width
of her hips, or the nature of her
parents...

...that her childhood may not
have been perfect...but its over...

...what she would and wouldn't
do for love or more...

...how to live alone... even if
she doesn't like it...

...whom she can trust, whom she
can't, and why she shouldn't take
it personally...

...where to go... be it to her
best friend's kitchen table...
or a charming inn in the woods...
when her soul needs soothing...

what she can and can't
accomplish in a day...
a month...and a year...

Car--I'm sorry to hear about you and your boyfriend. I actually have a really funny story about something I did after a breakup.

I had just broken up with this guy last November and I was feeling really down. So my friend Lisa decides that she's taking me to Bourbon Street and gettin me drunk. So I get all dressed up and we head down to Bourbon but not before her sister introduced me to some 40 year old firefighter (bear in mind that I was 19 at the time). So anyways we finally get to Bourbon and we're walkin down the street checkin people out. I'm just casually sippin on my strawberry daiquiri and gettin over my breakup blues. Well I had on these really uncomfortable shoes so I had slid my feet back in them to take some of the pain away. Well Lisa decides to get off of the sidewalk and just walk in the street b/c some old dude kept touchin her ass. So here I am in my cute little skirt and top with my uncomfortable shoes. I go to follow her off the sidewalk and I lose my balance. Well I fall head first onto Bourbon Street. Not only that but my 64 oz daiquiri bust all over me. I looked like I had some gross disease b/c my skin was all red and splotchy from the daiquiri. Not only that but God and country got a peek when my skirt flew up. I have never scraped myself up off the ground so fast. There I was in the middle of Bourbon Street embarrassed and cryin with bloody knees. I wanted to die then but now I just look back on it and laugh.

Remember girl if you ever need to talk...I'm here for you!!! I've got plenty more funny stories like that if you ever need to hear one!!!

Allison
