senioritis blahs

So, i'm having problems..i've come down with a major case of the blahs..Have you ever just felt like why bother?
This past weekend was my birthday, and not only did my grandfather forget..but so did one of my best friends..
one of my friends, who i work with, emailed out wishing me a happy birthday on our work's listserve, like everyone else does for other people's birthdays, and not a single person responded wishing me a happy birthday..not that i like the people i work with..but whatever..
i have a paper due on thursday, and i have absolutely no motivation or desire to write it..thus i haven't started it
i graduate in 3 weeks, and quite frankly..i'm absolutely terrified..i have no clue what i'm doing with my life, i know i am not going to able to find a job remotely related to my field..and i don't want to go to grad school yet because i'm so incredibly burnt out
i really am not looking forward to moving home w/my parents because quite frankly i go stir crazy there after a day
I don't know..i think i was just looking more to vent..but has anyone else ever felt like this? Just hit a total slump and just not felt like bothering anymore?

oh my gosh

This sounds exactly like what I'm going though right now. I could identify with every aspect of your post (esp. the grad school thing). I am so terrified of the unknown. I have always known exactly what I was going to do and what path I was going to take and now I don't know WTF I am doing. I'm not looking forward to moving home either and I'm scared of not finding a job in my field I was talking to a friend last night telling him I had a huge project to turn in which is a culmination of the internship I did this semester. I have NO motivation to get it done. I hadn't really thought about senioritis but he mentioned it and it's true. Deep down I know everything will be OK...and it will turn out OK for you too Everything doesn't turn out on the time table we expect it to and I really believe things will happen (or not happen) for a reason. Please fell free to PM or IM me if you want to talk or vent.

BTW, do you graduate Dec. 15? and what's your major?

I'm starting to go through it too, although I still have one more semester after this one. I freak out sometimes about what I'm going to do with my life, where I'm going to live, etc. I already know I have to move away from home because I live in a small town and there are no opportunities here unless I want to teach. And I don't. I find it hard to get motivated to do my school work so I put it off until the last minute. Please don't tell me it's going to get worse next semester!!!

I hope no one gets the senioritis blahs as bad as my roommate did... She stopped going to most of her classes about a month ago and is not coming back to school next semester. To top that off, she decided that when she does go back to school she is going to change her major. Did I mention that she is a senior and is almost finished with her current major??? She's going to be in school forever...

First of all, happy birthday!

I completely understand exactly how you're feeling right now, because I went through the exact same thing. As graduation approached, I felt horribly depressed and claustrophobic, dreading the end of school (which I thought was really fun) and fearing the unknown. I had a paper to write that I actually didn't finish until 3 months after I was supposed to graduate (I managed to get an incomplete and more time to finish it) because I just couldn't do it. I had no money and knew that I was going to have to move home with my parents for a while. My mom was very excited about this, but I dreaded it every second.

Well, I lived through it and it really wasn't bad. Yes, my first job had nothing to do with my degree -- no, I didn't go to college to work at a one hour photo lab looking at everyone's pictures. I did find a job in my field after about 6 months, moved to an apartment with a friend, and eventually went back to school. I think it is a good idea to work for a year or two before going to grad. school -- at least it was for me. Grad. school can be a lot of work, and you definitely don't want to be sick of school when you start.

While you will spend time stressing about your paper and finding a job, take time to have fun, too, and try to relax a little bit when you can. You are feeling something almost every college graduate since the dawn of time has probably felt (at least those of us who didn't have awesome jobs lined up ahead of time) and you will get through it.

Good luck!!

XO, I just wanted to tell you that you're not the only one who feels this way! I like to look back on times when I've been confused about where my life is going...you can always see things coming together in hindsight! For now, just push through the blahs, get it done with, and give yourself a little time to relax and have fun. You have your whole life to figure out what you want to do - for now just take it one day at a time! (And I hope you had a great birthday anyhow!! )

P.S. Valkyrie - where did you get that name? I actually live on Valkyrie Circle and I've never seen it used anywhere else!

Valkyrie Circle -- that's so cool!

Well, one of my cats is named Valkyrie, so I just stole it from her. I didn't know what a valkyrie was, so I looked it up -- it's from Norse mythology -- valkyries are winged creatues that lead dead battle heros to Valhalla -- but I really just thought it was a cute name. And my cat leads nothing to anything, although she is the boss of the other cats.

Omigosh - that's so true! My neighborhood's main road is Valhalla (our high school's mascot is the viking) and there are Norse, Sigfried, Wotan, etc. roads with mythological names too. I think it's a little odd, myself. Half of our roads are Viking names and the other half (surrounding the club and the golf course mostly) are famous golfers - Snead, Palmer, Hogan, etc. I'd prefer a simple Maple/Elm/Pine St., but that's just me!

I'm graduating next semester, and I've got the "I don't give a crap anymore" blahs. My major is very heavy on group assignments, so I'm constantly running around trying to do my work, and pick up slack for people who just don't have the same standards as I do. I'm at the point where I could just leave school and not go back.

I mailed my law school apps yesterday, and I can't wait to start that. I'm a very independent and competitive person - I don't like having to coordinate groups and then worry that their mediocrity will bring my grade down. I'm looking forward to being able to have work that is only dependent upon MY abilities, not how well I could do work for someone else.

I used to be scared of leaving college because it was so much fun. Now I can't wait to get away from LSU.

Because of the TOPS program, college is basically free for me. Well, I have certainly gotten what I've paid for - NOTHING

Thumbs down

Birthdays SUCK!!!!!

There is always one next year! And Next Year, and Next YEAR!

While at college, you think it is the worst of times, once you get into the real world of many more egos than you have ever seen, it is a whole cornicopia of things to see and do!

I liken it to my ex who said she never got to go anywhere! Dah, Austria to ski and England to tour!

Not counting on going skiing at least twice a year or asking what are we going to do the long weekend. Hell lets go to San Diego. Then one time to San Fran!

Lot to do and see out there in the real world!
Of course If I had not gotten married i would still be in school

Would have finished up all of my majors and minors! That would have taken two sem. 2 majors and 3 minors and then gone for more!
