Yes!!! I was I am considered a founding sister of the Iota chapter of Delta Zeta at the University of Iowa! After closing our doors about 4 years ago due to low numbers and problems within the house we re-colonized this past fall!

I am. I chose A.S.K. because of the opportunities that the organization presented for women in technical fields, in terms of sisterhood as well professional support.

Did you consider any other organizations before you chose?

how i joined DZ is actually an interesting story.... when i rushed, i had a definite favorite house, Delta Gamma, i knew a ton of girls in the house, loved it, loved them. also up there with DG was Alpha Chi Omega and Tri-Delt - Delta Zeta wasn't even on my mind! Thats probably because DZ was new to my campus this year - so i'm a founding sister!!! Anyway, as rushed was nearing its end, and i was going to preference parties for DG, AXO, and Tri-delt... i went and although they were really nice, i just didn't have that feeling i thought i would have when i found my perfect sorority - and that got me scared! this is a lifetime committment! so i decided to not sign my bid card! people were shocked!!! well, DZ immediatley contacted me and let me know that they were very interested in me coming to their formal rush, which was set apart from the other houses since they had just recolonized. I met with national representitives from DZ, interviewed, and was chosen with 33 other fabulous women to be founding sisters of the Iota chapter of Delta Zeta. I think it was the best choice i could have made - and it really reminded me that you have to go into things with an open mind - because i was so set on DG - and that really wasn't right for me! I'm very proud to be a DZ

Fabulous....When I look back at our chapters founding I see all the other organizations that they were looking at and I wonder what made them choose one out of the many wonderful groups.
P.S. I'll be waiting for the info..

Precious Turtle
That is a wonderful story. I am glad that you found your home. Rush..as it was called was an equally difficult decision for me. I don't think I ever sweated and worried more in my life. I went in deadlocked on one and ended up going with another.
In our chapter there is a book that the founding sisters put together. On one page is small booklets of all the sororities they were looking at for our campus. AOPi, XO, DDD, KKG and I just wonder what made them pick the sorority they did. Or did they not get their first choice. Do you know how it works?

I am a founding sister of my chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma. I joined our local on 4/16/93, we were colonized as a Sigma chapter in 9/93, and became the Zeta Rho chapter on 5/1/94!

My chapter at ECU was just recolonized and then installed (November 18,2000), so I guess we would be the recolonizing members, but I think we go through the same things!
We had to narrow it down from 11 other NPC groups, but KD was my first choice from the start, even before we got intrest letters! I thank my lucky stars EVERY day that I'm a KD, I couldn't imagine being anything else!
Recolonizing was a great experience, I would reccomend anyone, not in another NPC group, to jump on it, if there is a new group you will learn tons about your campus and the system that not many members of established chapters get to.
Kappa Delta was the best choice for ECU and Me!
