NEED EVERYONE'S HELP ON THIS ONE--GREEK AND NON-GREEK!
Hello, my name is Heidi and I'm a student in Madison WI. I'm in desperate and need each and everyone of you to help me! I'm writing a sociology paper on Greek life and whether or not it segregates or unifies? And at one time or another I've talked to each of you about this subject and was hoping that you would be able to give me your own opinions, perspective, personal experiences with the greek system, etcetera. I know we are all really busy people, especially at this time of the year, but I would greatly appreciate each of you taking two minutes to email me something. If you would like to remain anoyomousin my paper, I will respect your right to do so. Thank you all so much. I hope this finds everyone well
Some questions I've offered to get the ball running:
Is greek life a big issue on your college campus?
Have you ever been or are you in a fraternity/sorority? If so, were your experiences/have your experiences been good or bad?
Do you think being in a sorority/fraternity unifies/segregates a campus? In what ways is the presence of greek life unifying? In what ways is it segregating?
Do you think that being involved in greek life makes a college student more involved in the overall community spirit of the campus?
Do you think hazing and initiation rituals are unifying or segregating?
Hopefully this will help everyone to start thinking. I sincerely appreciate all of you helping me out with this in advance. Thanks again!
ps~~ Please pass this on to anyone that might be interested in being interviewed or sharing their opinion for this paper.Thanks much!

Hello Heidi,
Sorry, but I don't think anyone here will answer your request for info. At least, I hope they won't. Not to be rude, but it's these kinds of threads that sometimes lead to Greeks getting portrayed in a negative light. We've had too many people posting with the same "I'm writing a paper" story to believe them anymore. If you're for real, then I apologize and I'm sorry that others have come before you and been dishonest. They've ruined it for people who really do want honest information.
I would suggest talking to students, Greek and Non-Greek, on your campus and doing face-to-face interviews with them to get the information that you desire. By doing that, they'll know you personally, and, most importantly, you'll know them. You'll have less chance of getting false information that way. Hope this helps!

Well, I can tell you one answer that is pretty easy. Hazing shouldn't do anything b/c we aren't supposed to do it. I honestly don't think there are many chapters here that do. I know it still happens but like I said it should do anything b/c it shouldn't happen. Sorry but I am so tired of ppl talking about hazing all the time like we all do it and love every second of it!

To get credible sources that you can use in academic research, I suggest you do face to face interviews with people. Outlets like these are not necessarily reliable as academic research. (Not that I don't love you all, but who knows who we all are in the big picture ).

No - not at all - we just didn't have anything better to do.
No - I never joined a sorority...I just like to perp AXO
My experiences were awful - I am sorry that I ever pledged (not that I really pledged since I am just perpin')
Segregates - we don't want anyone who would have anything intelligent to say in our groups.
Ways it unifies - we all sit around as greeks trying to come up with even more horrible things to do to our pledges other than circling fat on their bodies and putting them in coffins (dead animals included, but for an additional fee)
Ways it segregates - we have to weed out the people who really have better things to do than approach an obviously PRO-greek website and try to create problems.
We don't give a good gosh darn about the campus.
Wow -- all that for you to get around to the $64,000 question...how could we have possibly guessed where this one was leading! And how on earth did you ever figure out that hazing was a ritual???
~~~~~~
Am I being sarcastic just a little...you figure it out! And while you are at it, hit the "Back" key, and how about looking at the top of the screen...go ahead I'll wait....there you go, just scroll right on up there, and *WOW* look at that...SEARCH...imagine what that button could do...why don't you click on it and find out. I'll give you a hint -- when you get to the little box that says SEARCH FOR, enter in hazing, rituals, independents, or just about any other word you typed in here and I'll bet you'll find some answers from those posts. Hey - here's another idea for you...after you figure out how that search engine works, go ahead and search for dues -- then you'll be two steps ahead!
And here's one more piece of advice...look up my topic on "GC regulars worst nightmare" because you just might fit the description!
If you really want some "research" -- then how about doing it yourself via the re-"search" engine on the site. Then if you want some more info, see what "mccoyred" has to say in her post. That's some good info too
I was going to write a book about my Fraternity experinces but asked myself, self who would want to read that? Well a year later it came out as Animal House! Damn!!!! It had to be someone in my Local I started as I knew every guy! I had the Dean tell me and 3 of the smartest Brothers that with our GPC what National would want us.
TaDa Colonized with LXA and the Deans son became a Brother.
Well as we all know if someone is serious, what we really do is not newsworthy, what gets stupid is! If most of these sudo writers want to know, yes we hang with our people, yes we hang with our types, yes we do do do, so why hang with peope you hate or do not trust? Not all of my Brotherts are the same thank god. I do not want a cookie cutting Fraternity and never will. Each Assoc. Member we have is not the same as me or the others. DA!! We Are Not AutoTrons!!!
Heids has posted the same question here before. I remeber because not many people have my name & she does. I actually replied to her last time. Maybe she should search her own posts?
I beleive that by going back and reading the various threads (if you have the time!), it will give you a general idea of how the GC community feels about the issues.
