Hey, Need a bit of advice.

Hey everyone my name is mike, and i currently go to Rutgers. Im in my sophomore year and i seen a one of friends join a frat and another just did one this semester. I was looking in to joining a frat, but i wanted to know the Pro's and Cons. I did do part of rush week for the frat i was going to join, but i decided to hold off one semester to consider the benefits and get my grades in check. Does commuting have an effect on joining the frat?

I'm sure your friends would be the best people to ask about Greek Life at your school.

As for Pros and Cons, what is a positive for you is not necessarily the same for someone else. Only you can decide if it's worth it. Make a list. Get all the information you can. Make an informed decision.

We can't tell you if the particular organization you are interested in makes decisions on one's living status, but I will tell you from experience, that you might need to be on campus at different times and/or more time than you already spend there. Because I don't know your school/fraternity/chapter, I can only guess that there will be many occasions to be on campus outside of classroom time. If that's an issue for YOU, then it may be for them.

Oh, and just wondering, how are your grades from your previous two semesters?

Talk to current members and people pledging.

I currently go to Rutgers Newark, and think about pledging for Delta Epsilon Psi. I normally dont mind staying on campus later than usual because i tend to do that most of the days. But i know i wont beable to stay later than 12ish.

My grades, there pretty decent pulled 3 A's, and Two B's last semester. First semester was kinda bad, got Two C's and Two B's and one A. I heard my gpa will drop because the amount of time dedication needed so i also need to consider that.

You should be fine as a commuter as long as you are willing to get home late some times. Most of the school commutes after all. Especially true IIRC because Delta Epsilon Psi is actually at NJIT. Maybe I'm wrong and there is a chapter at RU?

Oh ok thanks for the input. Makes me a bit for confident in rushing for RY. Yup your right, the chapter is at NJIT, but there is one in RU but they havent been recognized yet and there working on that. However i knew everyone from NJIT fraternity. Btw how did you know Delta Epsilon Psi wasnt at RU-Newark?

I can't stand it. Even business majors need to know the difference. You may think it doesn't matter, but would your writing impress a potential employer? A customer?
The first there is used correctly. The second one should be they're - the contraction of they are.
And yes, it does matter on a discussion board.

Since no one has mentioned it yet, I'll quickly add: try not to use the term "frat" -- some people may find it offensive. It's much safer to just always use the full term: fraternity.
