Questions about Alabama Recruitment

I'm actually a high school senior with some questions about Alabama. I'm from Texas and I'm wondering if the fact that I'm an out of state student will affect my chances in recruitment. I'm an in house legacy to a school in Texas and I wanted to know how that will impact my chances at that house and other houses. I don't know anybody who goes to Alabama so I would really appreciate any input anyone has! I'm basically wondering if my lack of connections to actives at Alabama will seriously hinder my recruitment experience.

QFP

About 60% of this year's pledges are from out of state, so being OOS should not be a problem. Your legacy status may not get you anything, though, including and invitation to second round. There are MANY legacies going through - some sororities have enough legacies going through to fill 2 or 3 pledge classes.
Your best bet: very good grades, excellent activities, a smile and good conversation skills.

Thank you so much! That actually makes me feel so much better. I've heard that Alabama has an extremely competitive rush so I'm really glad there are so many out of state girls. Would you say Bama rush is comparable to UT in terms of how competitive it is?

I'd say they're almost equal, giving Texas a slight edge.
The old adage about keeping an open mind and being open to any sorority is very, very true at Alabama! And be sure to get your recs!

And do keep in mind that while it IS competitive, still something like 80% (I don't recall the figure for Bama, but it's generally 75-85% at schools around the country as far as I've seen) of girls get placed. And among that 20% or so girls who don't get placed, a substantial portion of them chose to drop out. Start working right now on getting best and worst chapter visions out of your head and you will likely be fine.

I actually made a spreadsheet out of the NMs from this year's recruitment. There were 113 women from Texas that were matched at Alabama.

Start networking now for those recs!

As a parent of a young lady from So Cal who just got her letter of acceptance to Alabama today, nice to see so many CA girls on your list.

Panhellenic has Preview Day in the spring when all PNMs can come to campus to visit the chapters. Other visits are not allowed. Go to the Greek Life web site and see the info for this year. Keep tabs for the spring. It is very, very helpful for you to attend.
