The Red Solo Cup:How the disposable drinking vessel became an American party staple.

Kind of an interesting story:

LOL. Pulled into the hotel this past weekend for homecoming and what was the first thing I saw in the parking lot? Alumni from the 1950s drinking out of their red Solo cups. It made me happy.

My last apartment was a few miles from a Solo factory/warehouse in Conyers. I would giggle a little every time I drove past it's Solo sign because of memories of post-party fraternity house lawns.

Think they squared off the bottom so they wouldn't fall so easily? I didn't know it was legal to party without them! Of course, I was over 10 before I realized that Dixie Cups weren't named after my mother!

LOL... I love the comment at the end

How might the new shape affect the product’s famous role as a Flip Cup accessory? [...] I have been flipping cups at my desk all day (much to the puzzlement of nearby co-workers), and I can now assure you that there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Flip Cup with a square-bottomed Solo is the same game.

Once I went to a party where they had blue and green solo cups and I was perplexed. I'm convinced that partying is somehow less fun when the solo cups are not red. It's almost like my mind doesn't register it as a party if the cups aren't red.

I recently went to a 50th birthday party for a friend where they had kegs and red solo cups. They also had green and blue solo cups- but those were for the non-alcoholic beverages. so it was easy to tell the kids cups from the adult cups!

I just got home from Target and they had orange and black Solo cups for Halloween parties....not sure how I feel about this. I am a traditionalist.

I can't believe I've never heard or seen flip cup. I had to look it up on You-Tube.

I'm a round cup gal myself. I must buy the red generic ones. We have them from our last BBQ, but they don't have the sleeve on them anymore.
