My Surprising Recruitment Story '11
I wanted to do this live a few weeks ago, but decided it would probably be best to wait and do it now. So, brief background story on me, I'm a freshman transfer student. I attended a medium-ish sized university last Fall/Spring, but transferred to a much smaller university this year. I went through recruitment at my previous university and received a bid from ABC sorority and accepted. I never went through initiation though and dropped from them. At my new school, I knew without a doubt I would want to go through the recruitment process again. So...here is where I will begin my story.
(There are three Panhellenic sororites at my university. I will call them Alpha, Beta, and Delta. These names have absolutely no reference to the real sorority name. They are just going to be used as reference.)
Day 1: This was Panhellenic Workshop day. We got to meet the Panhan Advisor and all the sororities' presidents. They told us a bit about each sorority and the Greek system. We received our rush shirts this day. Later that afternoon was "Meet the Greeks". All of the sororities and fraternities came to the Student Union building for a cookout and to meet the potential new members. This was also a time for us to get to know one another, as fellow rushees. I had my mind made up on this day what sorority I wanted. I had wanted this particular sorority since my last school. They were beautiful and super popular. I also was living temporarily on their hall in the dormitory. Therefore, I knew the girls very well and hung out with them on a regular basis.

How are you a freshman if you went someplace else last fall and spring?

Maybe she lost credits?
OP - did you transfer hoping to get into your "favorite" sorority because it's at a smaller school?

With that username I wouldn't be shocked.

Well - I know a sophomore who is actually redoing her freshman year because her grades were atrocious and she ended up withdrawing spring semester from all classes. She's GROing 3 first semester classes so in essence she's redoing her first semester of freshman year.
How's that for a speculative explanation?
OP, a request: since you're finished with recruitment, would you kindly post your story, instead of dragging it out? IMO, it seems that recruitment stories have turned into some kind of old fashioned radio serial or old soap opera; they go on and on and on for weeks. And on and on. And on. Until they are covered in cobwebs. And the OP has graduated from college. And the rest of GC is drawing Social Security.
Just sayin'.

Ok, sorry I've been away for a while. I honestly forgot about even posting this and have been busy. Anyways, I'll try to finish this up quickly. And for the questions, I do not have enough credits to be considered a sophomore and no, I didn't transfer with hopes that I could get in the better sorority.
Day two: This was a Monday and we actually didn't do anything on this day.
Day three: Tuesday - This was Alpha sorority's day. We started out all going into one of the rooms on their hall. They all introduced themselves and then we ate. After that we were broken into groups of four. They took us group by group into different rooms and parts of the hall. We visited the history room, information room, toured the rooms and bathrooms, Philanthrophy room and the Brag room. All in all, I was super impressed with everything I saw. I knew this was definitely my top choice. However, there was 30 something girls who went to Alpha's rush night. And we were told they were only giving out 9 bids. Ouch... it looked like it was going to be tough to get in this sorority.

Day four: Beta's day. We met in a big room across from our caf. We came into the room and sat down at tables with 5 other rushees and an active. We played a couple games and then ate. Then played a few more games. Then we went outside and stood in a circle. They did a candle pass and talked about what the sorority meant to them. It was touching, but I knew I didn't feel "at home" with these girls.

Day five: This was Delta's rush night. It was themed so that was kind of cool in my opinion. We filled out some papers when we first arrived. Asking about us and general stuff like that. Then we ate, watched a slideshow on the sorority and what it means to them, and played some games. I have never in my life laughed more than this night with these girl's and the other rushees. I had sooo much fun with everyone here! I was torn between Alpha and Delta now...

Day six: Bid Day!! We were told to meet in the same big room where Beta and Delta had their rush. I had class right before the time we were told to meet and I literally could not focus the entire time! Another girl who was rushing was in the class with me and I met her at Delta's rush night and we really connected. We both ran to the bid day room as SOON as class let out! When we got there there was tables everywhere. We found a table with some open spots and we sat and waited. It took forever!!!! They called the tables one by one, one girl at a time. We were the 2nd to last table!! When I finally got to go see my bids I was shaking so bad... I got to the back and saw that I had received.... one bid!!! What?? I was so confused! I just KNEW I would have more than that... The advisor asked me if I wanted to accept what I had or think about it for a minute. I told her I wanted to think about it. I went back into the room and contemplated my decisions. A few more girls went, and then I was called back!! I had another bid! So now there were TWO bids I had to decide between! Or the advisor said I could wait until the Spring and try again for the other sorority...decisions decisions... I went back to the room to think some more. After talking to my *new* friend and hearing her decision I made up my mind... I felt in my heart I knew all along but was trying to talk myself out of my decision. I went to the back and signed for my bid!!

I'm confused. Was this an informal rush for upperclassmen only?

I went ahead with the pledge process but dropped before initiation. Also, I didn't do so well in my classes and ended up with a 0.8 GPA. My question is, I have to register for recruitment process over here and didn't list that I was previously a pledge to another chapter. Will they be able to find out that I lied? Like I said, I never initiated to that sorority. Also, no GPA minimum was listed on the registration nor on the website, so will my low GPA hurt me?

Surprising, indeed.
