Scholarship housing question?

Hi everyone! This is my first post so I hope I'm doing it right! Anyway, I have a what to say/not to say question. I'm going through recruitment this fall at a large southern university and I've gotten into scholarship housing. I'm a sophomore and I have a 4.0 GPA and recs for most houses. I was wondering if I should keep where I'm living under wraps because I don't want anyone to think I can't afford dues. (I want to emphasize that I CAN afford dues because I don't want anyone attacking me saying not to bid if I can't. I can!) Would it be better to not mention where I'm living unless I'm asked? Would that be something I'd be cut for? Thanks!

Maybe I'm misinterpreting what scholarship housing is, but I'd have assumed it was the super-smart kids dorm, not the poor kids dorm. My guess is you're overthinking this. Answer the question if asked, but like most things, if you don't feel comfortable talking about it, don't bring it up. And DON'T go in all defensive, and try to make sure everyone knows you can afford being in a sorority. Ick. They won't ask (or shouldn't!) and you shouldn't mention it. Money falls right in with boys, religion and politics.

A lot of Greeks are full scholarship students. That is not a negative - it's a postive! I wouldn't even give it another thought.

Although I rushed years ago, I was also in a dorm for students who had received scholarships and it was seen as a good thing! No one assumed students there were poor; they assumed we were good students to have received a scholarship. I'd just answer the questions as asked and not worry about it.

scholarship housing can be for students who would otherwise not be able to afford to attend college. they are usually sponsored by organizations such as Rotary, Jaycees, the Southern Scholarship Foundation, etc. They can be actual houses and offer a sort of communal living experience, where household duties are shared and performed on a rotation basis. this is a different situation than honors dorms sponsored by the university.

OP, if you are asked where you live, you could say in a house off campus and leave it at that and then turn the question around on your hostess by asking where she lives. if she lives in the house, then you could ask lots of questions about living in. good luck!

This is more like what FSUZeta described, it's a co-op type housing. I wasn't able to get into university housing because by the time I was accepted the dorms were full. Talk about frustrating! I'm so glad I got this housing I just don't want any unfair judgement. I probably am over thinking it though. Thanks everyone!
