Recruitment as a Sophomore, GPA questions

Hey everyone!

I am going through formal recruitment as a sophomore this coming year. I went through recruitment last year, but decided to drop for a family reason (a real one lol).

I am worried about rushing as a sophomore, but I am also optimistic
I have gone through many forums and still have some questions

My biggest fear is my GPA, spring semester I received a 3.1 and
my cumulative is a 2.95. How much will this affect my chances of getting
into any houses? I checked online and all houses during spring semesters GPA's ranged from 2.9- 3.4. To go through recruitment at my school one can go through with a 2.5 gpa

Will the process consider my high school grades/activities? I was very active in volunteering, sports, multiple school clubs, honors classes and had a 3.6 cumulative

In college I didn't pursued clubs yet, but participated in rec sports, worked full time and tutored
Also, I am unsure if this matters but How great of an impact will knowing girls in sororities already play?
I know a handful personally in various houses and have met a lot in another

Should I be concerned?
Thank you!

It's really hard for anyone to say without knowing where you go to school. Heck, even if we did know your school it would be hard to say because what you're asking falls within the membership selection area.

While IrishLake is correct, I will add that they will not be looking at your high school grades, if you are a sophomore. The same could be said for your activities during high school, unless you are still active in them. However, if it were me in the sorority, I would be looking at your past activities that you are no longer involved in as your interests, which may or may not spark a conversation about common interests.

You should be able to find out via the web or by calling the Greek Life office on campus what the various chapters minimum GPA requirements are. What you probably saw are their current grades. If the school requires 2.5 to go through, that's probably on target with most of the chapters. My instinct would be you're fine as far as GPA, but there are about 100 other variables, to which we can't speculate. You can eliminate this one concern by just asking the person in charge ON YOUR CAMPUS. Good luck!

I wanted to add that just because your SCHOOL requires a minimum of a 2.5 to participate, does NOT mean that a 2.5 is anywhere NEAR the individual CHAPTER requirements.

There are schools where you can participate with a 2.5, but the lowest chapter min. is a 2.8 or something.

Also, sororities look at more than just GPA: activities, honors/awards, philanthropy, personality, etc. If there are charities that you like, volunteer at charity events this summer or get involved in community activities.

And definitely create a Recruitment Resume -- highlight all you've participated in and accomplished. My cousin went thru Recruitment last fall as a sophomore, I had her make a rush resume (which she sent with her application and to alumnae who wrote recommendations for her). It really helped her realize how much she had done in high school & her 1st year of college and gave her more confidence during the process. She had a 2.8 college GPA (3.75 in high school) and got into a great house, then made a 4.0 spring semester!
