Big Sister
I just found out that one of our new members chose me to be her big. I am so excited and I want to do something really special for her. Our chapter does this thing where the initiated members wait for them at a restaurant, and the new members have a scavenger hunt where they get clues to who their big is. I want to do something really nice for her. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can get her without being way too expensive?

Hi Honeybee,
I always made stuff myself for my lil sis. It's a lot cheaper than buying pre-made gifts. My favorite was getting plain stationary and envelopes and decorating them with various turtle stamps using green and pink ink. The best thing about it is that the paper is inexpensive and the ink pads and stamps can be used over and over. In my case, that was really a plus because I ended up having 3 lil sisters during my college years!
Another thing I liked to do was buy a couple of paint pens and some clear plastic picture frames and various pieces of tupperware from the local dollar store, and decorate them with DZ letters, turtles, her name and mine, etc.
Good luck!

When I got my big sister, she went to the dollar store and bought this huge laundry basket, decorated it with letters and unicorns and irises, and inside she made all this cool stuff. She bought me the best chocolate letters, stickers, stationary and all kinds of stuff! It was a great gift, and I still have most of it...except the chocolate of course We shared that the first night!

Just so you know, a scavenger hunt can be considered hazing, so make sure this activity is approved by your EO! I just don't want a potential pitfall to spoil a wonderful evening!

This is TexasAlum's site - she is an AXO.
There are some good ideas on here - if you do a search, you should be able to find more - I know there have been several posts about stuff like this (which usually end up coming about the time that big and littles are assigned) -- anyway, I can't remember all the good ideas (which included ideas for making your own bath salts and stuff like that) so do the search and you should be able to find them.
Congrats on being a big sis! I love my littles and my family is HUGE now!

i am also a big sis this semester...yeah!!! I plan to get my lil'un some fun but inexpensive things. i decorate clear picture frames from walmart with paint pens with our names, etc. I get our wooden letters the "A" and the "Phi" at a craft store and painting them so she can hang them up in her room. Of course i get her her drop or lavalier. i also made a collage of magazine clippings about our sorority and pasted them on a paddle, not to be used of course, but hung on her wall. There is so much fun and inexpensive things you can do!

I gave my lil sis a framed "family tree". You can usually find 8 1/2 x 11 paper at craft stores that are blank a blank family tree... I took that and filled in all of the "family" since the colonization of my chapter (8 years)... that way she'll know her "grand big sis" and her "great grand big sis" etc. I thing I probably spent .10 on the paper and $4.00 on the frame which I decorated with paint pens.

Hey, I am a Big Sister too this semester, and we just had our big/lil day revealing , but anyway, I made my little a whole bunch of things, so I hope this helped, I brought her a candy jar, candle, and tin can type thing, and decorated them both with puffy paint, I also made her a tack board,a flower pot,a decorated wine glass, and a candle holder with the sorority flower, and a collage. And she loved it all, so hopefully those ideas well help all you Big Sisters out
