Fratastic?

So, I was looking up books on fraternity life and I bought/read "The Goat" and another more analytical book. Every once in a while I check Amazon for new fraternity books and saw this one last week (http://www.amazon.com/Fratastic-eboo...4452895&sr=8-1). I purchased it and read it.

I'm curious as to if this is how fraternities really are? Anyone else read it/know the author? The stories range from amusing to scary.

Any other recommendations for books?

That's about the Masons though. I'm looking for memoirs/true stories.

My recommendation is to talk to members of greek organizations and talk to national organizations if you want to know more.

I mean, the easiest way to know what these groups are like is to actually talk with members. What a concept.

Got ya. Sarcastic way of saying the book is fake? Didn't sound very fake when I read it.

If you aren't Greek, what's with the fascination with fraternity life? If you are Greek, then wouldn't you know how fraternities "really are?"

Look, there's always going to be sensationalized books, TV shows and movies about Greek Life. Yeah, there are some unbeleivable true stories about how crazy it can be. Realize that this is the exception, and not the norm. The only way to know is to experience it for yourself. All experiences are different.

As a general rule of thumb, you shouldn't buy a book that has zero reviews on Amazon.com.

OSU isn't really all that of a Greek Life powerhouse school. Not even close to the experience at IU and U of I.

What was the purpose of that? Am I missing something?

Ditto. And based on my experience, OSU has a fairly strong Greek life.

Irrelevant. He's not going to Indiana or Illinois.

OP: Stop reading books about fraternities/Greek life to get an idea of what it is all about. It won't do you any good, and many of them are sensationalized.

OSU has a pretty wide spectrum of fraternities-you will most probably find one that you fit well with. Get to know the guys in the fraternities at OSU, make your decision based on that, not on books or websites.
