How many pnm's typically do not receive a bid?
I would like to know for FSU specifically, but if you have info about your school, you can share that if you'd like.
and how many of these are because they are older?
obviously i don't mean exact numbers or anything, just in the past what has it seemed like?
sorry if this is overkill, i'm just nervous about rushing next year and it's been on my mind a lot because i'm getting all of my recs together

Even if we could answer this question, it wouldn't tell the whole story.
There are schools where every PNM who maximizes her options and gets to pref is guaranteed a bid, but some of them don't accept the bids or drop out shortly after. So you can't count them as "success" stories.
And as far as why ANYONE doesn't receive a bid, including age, that's confidential membership selection stuff and not really appropriate to discuss on here.
As for your particular situation, get recs for ALL the sororities, keep an open mind and don't psych yourself out.

Because FSU now accepts first semester freshmen for spring semester (deferred acceptance), you will be one of many freshmen with college credits. Get your recs. Get your clothes. Smile nicely. Have fun.

^^^It's one of those things where you just have to prepare as best you can and just do it. You may get a bid. Or not. You never know.

OK, I guess I'm dumb. You mean no one could ever start at FSU in the spring semester before? Or is it a large enough number of people that they are, in effect, admitting a second freshman class?

Maryland is offering spring admission to more and more students who apply for fall admission rather than rejecting/waitlisting. I imagine the same thing is going on at FSU?

nolesgirl, secure those recommendations for each sorority, practice your small talk over the summer(every opportunity you have to start a conversation with a stranger, do it), organize your wardrobe, and keep your nose(reputation) clean. during rush keep an open mind and give each sorority a fair chance, don't get involved in "tent talk", relax, and smile.

PenguinTrax posted in August 2009 that typically 1200 girls go through fall formal recruitment and that 60-65% of those girls get bids.
http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...d.php?t=106740
Keep in mind that many, (perhaps most) of the girls who do not get bids drop out during the process of recruitment for various reasons.
FSU rush is very competitive, and you will need recs for every house. Just be well prepared going in, and tell yourself that no matter what, you'll see the process through to preference. Many girls change their minds about houses as they go along, sometimes several times! So if you stay flexible and open-minded you'll have the best chances for success.
