Transfer problems and joing a new frat
Hey guys,
I just transferred schools and I was in an aepi chapter at my old school. After transferring to the new school(I won't mention the name), the new aepi chapter did not let me in. They were incredibly rude, the president did not show up to a meeting he planned with me, and he said I could not attend any of their events. They told me to look at other fraternities and that transfers do not do well there. I could possibly call national and fight my way in, but I do not want to. If they don't want me in it, I don't want to be in it. They are extremely different then the chapter I was in at my old school and not people I want to associate with. Since I decided that I wouldn't let this ruin me being in a frat, I decided to check out other fraternities, but I am now told I can't join any of them because I am a member of Aepi. As it stands now, I cannot join absolutely any fraternity at my new school. Is there a way to get around this? The chapter here really shares nothing other then the name, the people are obsessed with drinking and nothing else. The new frat I have been looking at, SigEp, said they are not sure I can join but they have been very receptive. I am not the type of person to quit things, it's just they won't let me join here and are incredibly rude. Please let me know if anything can be done.
Thanks in advance and good luck with exams!

No dual memberships allowed.
You'd have to drop from your current fraternity to be ELIGIBLE to join another, but that doesn't mean another fraternity will take you.

I am willing to drop Aepi, and my old chapter is willing to help me because they understand the situation. SigEp is willing to accept me assuming they are allowed, are they? What would I need to do?
Thanks!

Get off Greekchat and contact your Headquarters' membership. No one here is qualified enough to give you membership advice.

As I said in my original post, once you terminate your current membership, you're ELIGIBLE for membership in any other NIC organization. That does not mean that the new organization has to (or will) take you. You're taking a gamble.
As the previous poster said, these questions are more appropriate for your I/HQ, not a message board. If you want to hear how others' stories panned out, do a search of the forum.

For this to happen, you have to not only deactivate from AEII, but get your national headquarters to send a letter saying such to SigEp headquarters (which AEII may not do, even if you deactivate). SigEp nationals then has to approve of you joining the national fraternity, and only then can the local SigEp chapter get you in. But you also have to check your university's IFC rules. Even if AEII and SigEp cooperate, IFC might have rules against this (my school does). Also, make sure that ALL the SigEps are on board, not just the friends you've made in it. If I were you I'd just take alum status and keep the SigEps as friends, but that's just me.

Really? I don't think IFC can trump I/HQ decisions, as far as individual membership is concerned.

It's in our IFC constitution that even if you're initiated and drop, under no circumstances can you join another social fraternity as an undergrad on campus. As far as whether it's legal for that clause to be there per NIC rules I couldn't say.

I would interpret that as meaning two organizations (or rather, chapters) on the same campus, but without the text I couldn't say.

There's a difference between "I love my org and can't see myself anywhere else" and "screw everyone that's not XYZ"
