1) Would each room have it's own phone line, or would everyone share a line in a common room? WE HAD OUR OWN LINES. THERE WAS A HOUSE LINE AS WELL. IN FACT, IN MY ROOM, WHICH SLEPT 6, WE HAD THREE LINES.
2) Do your houses have curfews?WE DIDN'T.
3) Are guests allowed to stay over (non sorority members), if so where do they stay?
WOMEN CAN. FLOORS OF ROOMS, EXTRA BEDS, COUCHES, ETC.
4) Are guys allowed to stay over?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. NO MEN WERE ALLOWED ON THE SECOND FLOOR OF THE HOUSE, PERIOD. I BELIEVE THERE WAS A CURFEW FOR HAVING MEN IN HOUSE, BUT IDON'T REMEMBER FOR SURE.
5) Can individual rooms get cable, or is there usually a TV room? WE HAD A TV ROOM. I'M SURE WE COULD'VE GOTTEN CABLE IN THE ROOMS IF WE WANTED TO THOUGH.
Sorry for the caps, thought it would be easier to read the answers.

Amy

It really all depends on how big the house is. Some houses are small and don't need a phone line in every room. They can make do with just one TV in the common area and just a few regular sized bathrooms. Others are huge, housing 60 girls or more and need multiple phone lines and t.v.'s, community bathrooms on each floor, etc. Hope this helps.

brooklineu: I'm certain that all NPC sororities unanimously have a rule that no alcohol is allowed in sorority houses, whether it to be to drink, store or what have you. You didn't ask about that, but I thought it was something to let you know, in order to make your stories as realistic as possible!

1) Would each room have it's own phone line, or would everyone share a line in a common room?
Each room has a phone and there are at least 2 main lines for the house, another for the housemother and another for the president.
2) Do your houses have curfews?
There is a time at which the alarm is set and the security guard makes his rounds, but no set curfew.
3) Are guests allowed to stay over (non sorority members), if so where do they stay? Yes, ususally in empty rooms (if any are available).
4) Are guys allowed to stay over?No men allowed above the main floor and all men must be out of the house by 11 PM.
5) Can individual rooms get cable, or is there usually a TV room?
Main TV room with cable and VCR, plus at least one other TV in a common area available.
If you can think of any other interesting points about sorority houses, let me know...I'm realizing as I'm writing my series that I know nothing about how they operate lol.
NPC houses usually have live-in Housemother/directors, there is no alcohol allowed in the house. At the local ZTA House, all meals are buffet except for 2-3 nights a week when there are sit-down meals with servers. Breakfast and lunch only on Sunday, dinner is on your own. I think that's the case for Saturday, too.
Our local house is unusual in that we provide laundry facilities for free for our members and we provide a paid security guard for the 'graveyard' hours.

We also had a security guard. No alcohol, ever. Laundry facilities. A little kitchen to cook our own meals in as well as the full servie staffed kitchen. Housemother has own aprtment on first floor. President gets their own room, but can choose to share it--president's room was painted pink all others were white. No one ever knew why it was pink, but everyone wanted to live with the Pres. because of it. We had a computer center and a small gym--with a treadmill and bike, some weights. There was a huge tv with cable in the tv room, and a smaller tv in the small kitchen. Most girls also had tv's in their rooms. Dinner, as PenguinTrax said was buffet 4 nights a week, served once a week, on Mondays for formal chapter dinners. All houses had formal dinner and chapter meetings on the same night. Pledges of each organization would go from house to house throughtout the dinner hour making announcements, invititations, or delivering goods. Guys would send girls flowers and other things to Monday Night Dinner. After chapter meetings, all greeks would meet at the bar that was at the end of the Row--the "9-0", short for 901 club. OH, most junior members of the chapter living in the house live in "Pledge Porch"--a HUGE room that sleeps six. My roomates and I, chose to stay on Pledge Porch the whole time we lived there. We got along so well, and loved the huge room, we didn't see a point in relinquishing it. People thought we were nuts for not wanting the cushier rooms, but we loved our room. President also has own bathroom. Community bath on second floor.
Hope that helps!

Well, at my school the houses are tiny and most girls do not live in. However...
1. Each room does have its own line and there is a seperate line for the house as a whole.
2. No curfew, but at midnight on weekdays and 2 am on weekends (i think I got the times right) the house is deadbolted so individual keys that non live-in girls have are no longer enough to get in.
3. Non sorority members are welcome to stay over.
4. No boys ever. And if a boy is going upstairs, before the cut off time for boys to be upstairs, it must be announced that a boy is on his way up.
5. Our house girls just use the tv room.
This is the info that I got from NM Education a few years ago. I do not live-in so some rules may have changed without my knowing.

OK, well, now for us who don't live in a nationally owned house, but one that we rent. No meals or cook. You either had a meal plan or cooked. We had 5 phone lines for 16 girls. One was a main line and also belonged to the women on the first floor, and then there were usually 4-5 girls per line on the others. No long distance on these lines. All long distance was done via calling card or on a cell if you had one in 1994. Everyone had cable in their rooms, but we also had a main TV room. Anyone could come over and anyone could stay over. Boys or girls, although you had to be respectful if you were in a double room, which was only 3 rooms out of 13. Room assignments were made on seniority; older women got nicer rooms. No alcohol in the house though. We did have that because we had our letters on the house, which meant it was automatically NPC or something. And EVERYONE had insurance on their houses.
Hope it helps I can't imagine having to live in a house where a guy can't stay over. I mean, after all, we're all adults!

brooklineu,
How big is Brookline U? What %age of the students are Greek? Is it public or private? (I did look before asking all this!) That would help us to determine what the sorority houses would be like.
The ones at my school were basically exactly like shadokat's.

Phone lines- There are connections in each room, but you must pay for them yourself. There is a main line if you wish to use that phone instead and must always be answered "Alpha Gamma Delta"
Cable- We have cable in every room. We just got in the attic and split it (which is legal). There is a tv room with a DVD player and VCR and cable.
There is also a computer for members.
There is no curfew and men are only allowed in the public areas (never a bedroom even on the first floor) unless helping to move in or out. The doors are locked at midnight or two and you must have a key to get in. Guys have to leave by 2 AM or 4 AM on the weekend.
NO ALCOHOL EVER! It violates our Internationals and also our insurance policy.
Members living in the houses get parking and choose rooms by Executive Council then initiation order.
Friends can stay over in your room if everyone else in the house says it is okay first. You don't want to inconvience your sisters. You must also tell the person in charge of property.
Hope this helps!

1) Would each room have it's own phone line, or would everyone share a line in a common room?
-- Each room has their own phone.. our house is owned by our school, the majority of greeks live on campus in the same types of houses. We can decorate the inside however we want.
2) Do your houses have curfews?
No, we can come and go as we please.. the house has locks that open by scanning our IDs
3) Are guests allowed to stay over (non sorority members), if so where do they stay?
--Yes, guests can stay over whenever in your room, hey just cant roam freely
4) Are guys allowed to stay over?
--yes
5) Can individual rooms get cable, or is there usually a TV room?
--each individual room has cable plus we have tow other tvs in the chapter room and great room
Since our houses are owned by the school, we sort of have the same setup as someone living on campus though we have our own bathrooms and a cleaning staff.

[1) Would each room have it's own phone line, or would everyone share a line in a common room? Each of our rooms has its own phone line and we have a house phone for chapter membersto use as well.
2) Do your houses have curfews? We don't
3) Are guests allowed to stay over (non sorority members), if so where do they stay?
Yes, Wherever they want as long as it is not a male. most of the time on the couch.
4) Are guys allowed to stay over?
No boys in the living areas at all. no boys allowed to sleep in the house at all.
5) Can individual rooms get cable, or is there usually a TV room?
We have a chapter room with a TV and digital cable (yeah) TVs are not allowed in bedrooms ( I think its a fire hazard or something like that)
Other important rules: no alcohol allowed in the house at all ever.

Another thing about guests staying over...our house has a sleeping porch. This is a room with a bunch of beds in it that girls sleep in. One girl from each bedroom goes on the porch. We also keep extra beds in the room for guests and non-live-in sisters who want to crash at the house

1) Would each room have it's own phone line, or would everyone share a line in a common room?
Yes, although our house is owned by the school, we have our own phone/ethernet/cable system. If there are two roommates--same thing. Each person has their own phone and internet connection.
2) Do your houses have curfews?
Since the University doesn't have curfews, we really don't.
3) Are guests allowed to stay over (non sorority members), if so where do they stay?
Usually in members' rooms, and we have a library we've converted to a guest room when we have those all-important guests from Nationals come to visit.
4) Are guys allowed to stay over?
Because it's University Housing, there's no RULE against it. We have rules about guys in our personal areas (ie, library, lounges) past a certain hour, but men are allowed to stay over. I don't know how I feel about this, outside of visitors...not someone's boyfriend who has his own damned room.
5) Can individual rooms get cable, or is there usually a TV room?
Each person, regardless of how many people are in a room, can get their own cable. I've heard this is a pretty posh living situation for a university, so we're lucky.
Also, we have neither housemothers or a cook. Our house is adjacent to a dining hall, so we have direct access. Our school's kinda weird that way.
