What are my chances for getting into a sorority at UT?

Hi, I know you've probably heard questions like this probably more times than necessary but I was just really curious as to my chances in getting into a sorority at UT in Austin. I know the competitiveness of these sororities are great, as I've heard many stories from them. Which is why I wanted to ask this question.

I will be going to UT in the fall, and I am a Hispanic student, regular sized and in no way the typical thin that I constantly see overpowering the sorority websites. (I am in no way suggesting that these organizations are racist or subject to discrimination on appearance, I'm just being realistic because we all have our preferences and molds that we want to interact and be the face of our "organization). Anywho I am very academically oriented with many respected values, but I am also very social. I tend to hangout with the sperry/uggs/northface wearing girls at my school. Though money is not something that I have in abundance and none of my immediate family has ever graduated from a University let alone have ever been involved with a sorority/fraternity. So as you can see this process is very unfamiliar to me. (If by any means my description of myself was offensive to the question of my chances of offered acceptance into a university I apologize and retract my question).

If anyone took the time to read this and answer this, thanks in advance.

What was offensive was the fact that you haven't even bothered reading any of the threads in the recruitment forums. If you did, you'd know that no one here can tell you what your friggin' chances are.

Thanks....

Well I guess there isn't like a uniform policy of ways that recruitment goes then. Sorry. I didn't mean to come off ignorant, I really haven't mastered this site, and barely figured out how to actually post this. I appreciate everyone's feedback though and I guess I'll just have to go and try it out once I get there. Sorry again. No one else has to respond as i see this is probably not a good question to post here.

A sister of mine works in GL at a rather competitive school in the South. She tweeted this the other day kids are starting to turn in college apps and early decision acceptances are starting to trickle in. Their offices start to get recruitment questions this time of year.

I guess it's that time. lol.

I don't think you asked anything wrong.. BUT I'm not an old ornery alumnae yet so what do I know. Good luck hun. Every single bit of the next 6 months of your life will be way confusing, exhausting, incredibly exciting and equally difficult. Hope you get into all of your top schools & I'm sending good vibes your way.

Awe thank you, I really hope it's not too overwhelming seeing as this whole Greek life seems like it's already difficult enough. But a challenge is always more satisfying once I conquer it. Thanks again for the good vibes they are very much appreciated. You have no idea

Once more for good measure:

Use alumnus (alumni in the plural) when referring to a man who has attended school. Use alumna (alumnae in the plural) for similar references to a woman. Use alumni when referring to a group of men and women.

signed,
an old ornery alumna

There must be a million threads here about recruitment at Texas here. The search function is your friend.

If finances are an issue, sorority life will most likely be a challenge for you at Texas. You can count on $10,000 to $12,000 per year for the basics when you're living in. That doesn't even include things like the wardrobe and parking.

Random: I'm curious. You have to pay to park in your sorority house lot at Texas? How does that work? Do you buy a pass or something? At my alma mater, paying to live in the house = having a parking spot. Live-outs can park there if it's available, but they don't have to pay (it's an "every girl for herself" thing though because there aren't that many left over).

I'm guessing there are WAY more girls trying to park (way more live-ins too) at Texas vs. here though.
