Why a Shamrock?

Why are our events benefiting Prevent Child Abuse America called "Shamrock" events? I can't seem to find the answer to this question ANYWHERE and I'm dying to know!!

Have you asked your sisters or alumnae? Talked to your HQ? I think that might be the best place to get the correct answer.

I've asked lots of my sisters, and none of us seem to know. I looked through my New Member Education book, and Ordinary Miracles (the history of Kappa Delta) but couldn't find anything. Plus, the KD alum on GC tend to be the most efficient way to get reliable info. Don't worry, I know better than to ask here without doing my research first!

The first three KD Shamrock events that Google returns take place on:
March 7
March 20
March 13
Which all cluster around St. Patrick's Day, and so, shamrocks.

The Alpha chapter website has a picture of a leprechaun: http://alphakdnewsletter.blogspot.co...1_archive.html on a shamrock for the event.

Originally, the events were required to be held in March. Shamrock and St. Patrick's Day go together and since St. Patrick's Day is in March, National set the name "Shamrock" project. Nothing secret about it.

Thanks DaffyKD! Good to know! I figured it was something like that. It's just fun trying to explain why our event tickets have clovers on them when our event is in October =P

Yep, according to Betty Mulkey, National VP, the events were originally to be held in March, the shamrock is green..... She gave the talk at the Cincinnati Founders Day lunch. It was great! Happy Founders Day! (couple of days late)

It is actually discussed in Ordinary Miracles: the idea came from a fundraiser held by the San Antonio alumnae association, who had held it around St. Patrick's Day and used shamrocks somehow.

Thanks, Shellfish, since I know the alumnae behind it all, it is nice to see San Antonio get recognized for the event. They are indeed the reason for the season. It wasn't that long ago that all Shamrock events had to be held in March and then it was expanded to the end of February and the first of April. Now, apparently, it can be anytime. I feel so very old. I am amazed at how much money is raised each year.
