What Happened???
Hey everyone,
Yesterday was my bid day, but it didn't go as I had hoped at all. The night before, I went to three wonderful final parties and had the hardest time ever deciding what order to put them in! I would have happily accepted a bid to any of them.
Well, turns out I didn't get a bid to any of them. I didn't get a phone call either, and my ro gamma was just as shocked as I was since she said she wasn't told to make any calls. We talked to the recruitment head person who said it was impossible I didn't get a bid, since every girl that had gone to the last night did, even if it wasn't to one of the sororities she went to on the last night (this happened to one of my floormates, she got a call asking if she's accept a bid to one of the ones I went to, actually) and then asked if I'm sure I even went to final parties
They said they'd look into it, but it's been a day and I haven't heard anything. I want to cry every time I see happy girls in their new sororities

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. This sounds like an odd case where a mistake was really made somehow...How? I have no idea.
I'd follow up with the Department of Greek Life. Seems odd that you wouldn't get a call...did you just show up at bid day and there was no envelope for you?

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. I'd follow up with GL and see what became of them looking into it (at the very least).
If everything you're saying is true, I really don't see how this happened (especially if your school is one that guarantees placement for PNMs who attend Pref and maximize their options).

That should not have happened.
My first thought was that you were so low on all three chapters' bid lists that they all matched to quota without getting to your name. But you said your floormate got a call asking if she'd accept a bid to one of the three sororities you preffed - and chapters can only extend snap bids if they haven't met quota.
I'm sorry you were put in the position of showing up at bid day, certain you were getting a bid (because you hadn't been called), and then there was no bid for you. How awful.
I hope the Department of Greek Life can sort out what happened.

SophieAlexa, first: deep breath, and a comforting hug. I'm shaking my head in disbelief and feeling your hurt (empathy).
Second: yes, it happens: mistakes, that is. Computers are not perfect. Humans aren't either. And if this scenario is just as you wrote, then there MUST be a solution. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and walk into Greek Life Office and do not leave until you meet with the director. Be brave, calm, and polite, but assert yourself.
I don't know your campus (please do not post it online, IMO, for privacy reasons) and am assuming that you are talking about NPC sororities and not locals. If you attended three preference parties ("final parties" as you put it) and this is NPC, then there is a resolution.
At least one of those three chapters is probably thinking "Huh? What happened?" as well.
Thinking of you and sending you courage and strength.

Thank you for all of your nice words.
AzTheta, sorry I did mean preference parties, I just couldn't remember the name.
I got a call from the greek office a little while ago, and they told me that there is no record of me in the computers of having been at recruitment at all! I have no idea what happened, but they were really nice and understanding and said they would see what they could do for me since it wasn't my fault.
My ro gamma is taking me for coffee in a little while so that we can talk, too, since I'm so upset. I hope everything works out, I want to be in a sorority so badly and fell in love with three wonderful groups. At least I know now that it's not that they didn't love me back.

That is odd. If you weren't in the computer at all, how did you receive your invitation list? I wonder if you were somehow deleted during the post-pref matching? Perhaps the software keeps record of deletions...
I'm really sorry that this happened. I do hope that everything works out in the end.

You are handling this very gracefully. How could you have been invited to three pref parties if you weren't enrolled in recruitment? Sheesh!
Hang in there - it sounds like they are working with you, and it also sounds like your Rho Gamma is terrific.

you did fill out a form and pay a fee to participate in recruitment? it would be great if you filled it out online and saved a copy. can you show them a cancelled check or a bill that has the recruitment enrollment fee?
you had to have gotten an invitation list to parties or you would not have known where to go-doesn't your rho gamma remember handing you a sheet of paper daily with your list of parties?

Oh, they believe me that I've been there! Luckily I don't have to prove that.
I guess the problem is now that they don't know where to put me? Or if it's too late to go wherever I was supposed to? I'm not really sure, but my ro gamma is great and I'm sure she will help me make sure it works out since she knows so much more about this than I do.

If your school is a guaranteed placement school, you pretty much HAD to be on SOMEONE'S bid list (if it is true that you attended and ranked 3 parties).
I have never heard of a PNM with 3 parties who ranks all 3 and doesn't receive a bid (when a school is using guarantee placement).
If all facts provided are true, this sounds like a big clerical or computer mix-up.

HOLY COW.
You stay calm (calmer than I am right now after reading your latest posts), and you continue to politely and respectfully assert yourself. You received three preference invites (no need to apologize, I just clarify when I post so if there's a mistake it gets caught) so there are THREE chapters that would have placed you somewhere on their respective bid lists. This is a human error involving computers. Keep breathing.
Again, remember that three chapters invited you to preference and those members are probably wondering what happened as well. Trust me - we have feelings on this side and we hurt too. Each of those three chapters had a bid list and your name was somewhere on each one. It will take patience and persistence to resolve this and do not give up.
No, it is NOT too late. That is ridiculous. Don't even go there. This WILL be made right, I assure you. I'm just sorry that it happened and am very impressed that you are remaining gracious.
