Thumbs down Those Darn Segway Scooters

All possible segway jokes aside, rest in peace to the (new) owner of Segway scooters who fell to his death the other day.

They have ruled it an accident. That's a very interesting accident, though:

Experts have been warning about their safety:

GCers, I want those of you who ride to work on your Segways (knight_shadow?) to be very careful. God bless.

So never having been on one, is it not possible to jump off if you are having control problems or facing danger?

I think I'd rather suffer a broken nose and/or some scrapes rather than going off a cliff (or driving into a bench such as that one article suggests).

There's no segway.

It is very sad. I actually had to remind myself of what a Segway scooter is. I thought people had gotten over them.

I was wondering that. Perhaps he was going too fast.

I would also rather suffer a broken body than a dead one. It actually made me wonder if he was trying to stop it...or if he intentionally went to the cliff and thought he could stop before falling off. I hope he didn't commit suicide.

You're right, karma is a bitch so it's probably best if I never get on a Segway.

Didn't President Bush bust his ass falling off of a Segway a few years back?

This is some pretty shitty publicity for Segway....

I just don't see the point in 'em. What a ridiculously expensive way to accomplish the same thing as a bicycle.

Compared to a bicycle, Segways are ten times as expensive, half the speed, and generally have much shorter range.

When I first heard this, I seriously thought it was a joke.
