Informal Recruitment Recommendations
I'm a bio major who's a junior with a 2.969 GPA(I transferred in last fall, so this is only after two semesters) and I have decided to go through informal recruitment. I go to a small school in the North where(in the fall) you can attend as many or as little events as you want for all four sororities or just one. I see how recommendations are important for big competitive schools but I am not sure for a small school. For the one I am looking at, on their school site they have a spot for New Member Recommendations, but I don't know anyone who was a sister of that sorority. Where could I go to ask for one? Could I go to that organization's page on GC and ask....I'm not sure how to go about it.
Thank you!

Don't do that. You really don't want to solicit recs from strangers on GC.
If you have existing connections for recs, getting them wouldn't hurt. But since you go to a small school in the North and will be participating in informal recruitment, I'm sure you'll be okay without them. This message board is great in providing information and tips, but sometimes I feel like it scares PNMs and their parents into thinking their school is anything similar to the crazy world known as SEC recruitment.

Same places you would for recs for any groups at any school - teachers, parents' friends, people from church, employers, etc. Network, network, network. If you find someone in ANY NPC group, ask if she knows people in the group you need a rec from. We all know folks in other groups.

Could I ask current sisters? Since this is an online thing, only alumni from XYZ sorority can fill it out. I was hoping to ask women from ABC and other sororities to fill it out til I noticed that.
Thanks all!

Not every sorority allows current sisters to write recs. Ex: ours can only be written by alumnae.

You could ask them to introduce you to an alum who could write one.

I'm just nervous due to my low GPA. The minimum GPA is a 2.5, so I'm fine but I still feel that I'm low. I'll ask my friend in XYZ to introduce me to an alum.
THANKS

Recs won't help if your GPA doesn't make the cut. You either do or do not pass go and nobody's help will change it. I think your GPA is probably fine for most chapters, but if you want specifics you should be able to find it from the Greeks office.

honeybee, your school sounds a lot like mine (4 sororities, informal fall recruitment). I don't want to make assumptions, but I can tell you that at my school, recs aren't necessary at all. In my three years as an adviser I have yet to see a rec.
