Question How Do You Fight It?

When you feel like you're coming down with something or you've already got it, how do you fight it off???

I woke up feeling like chit yesterday and what I've tried (advil, vaporub, and sleep) haven't worked.

When I get a cold, I normally put some VapoRub on an old washcloth and sleep with it on my face. (VapoRub is too greasy and if I put it directly on my face, it'll break me out.)

Well...

Being that it seems as if I am ALWAYS ill (charge it to my being very anemic), I have had my share of this--actually I've had enough for about 3 of us!! Anyway, my Mom has gotten me in the hapit of taking some Theraflu and Zinc tablets called "Coldeeze" when I start to feel something coming on...The Zinc, esp. seems to work well...Drink some juice, water (you could also be dehydrated b/c most of us don't get enough), and eat balanced, healthy meals, making sure that you get enough of proper nutrients such as iron and calcium...

Also, make sure you get plenty of rest and sleep, and try not to stress (High levels of stress make you prone to get sick--It happens to me EVERY YEAR!!! )...

Hope you feel better!!!

Echinachea (sp?). It helps build up the immune system. You can either get the drops, vitamins, or Green Tea (anti-oxidants) with Echinacea.

When I feel like I am coming down w/ a cold, I immediately take some Nyquil(Nighttime is less expensive) or Theraflu. I always try to drink plenty of oj and sleep it off.

I was always sick at least once a year until I began getting flu shots. I started getting them in 1998 and every since I've avoided getting anything during the winter. During the spring, my allergeries start to go crazy but otherwise I'm fine. I don't know if there is a connection, but I got another one this year.

Zinc drops are sooooo effective - they will totally keep you from getting sick. Also, there are vitamin c drops that kinda tastes like strawberries and are yummy - and give you a full days worth of vitamin c

Some good old-fashioned CASTEROIL should run whatever's ailing you right out of your system. Remember casteroil?

But if you're not into any of the old-school remedies, Robitussin is very good (Remeber Chris Rock said that his father used "Tussin" for EVERYTHING ). Nyquil is very, very good. Also Three 6's is another good old-school medicine that works well. This medicine tastes just as bad, if not worse, than Casteroil, but it works.

Just remember to consult your doctor about any illnesses. You may not be dealing with a cold, but something else which is why the medication that you've been taking has not been working.

HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER AND GOD BLESS.

I get the flu every year also...I haven't gotten my flu shot yet (I'm blessed that I haven't gotten the flu yet b/c I usually get it once b/w Nov & Dec) but I am going to soon, b/c Jan-March is the absolute WORST for me...

Question: Does the shot make you initially sick?? I've heard about this to be true for some people...

Thanx for putting that out there so I can know it works for someone like me!!

I used to work at a hospital and they provided free flu shots for the employees and volunteers. I got it every year that I was there. It never made me sick. Actually, I barely had colds during those winters. I guess I should go get one. But, I just can't bring myself to pay for it after I had it for free for so long.

I've never gotten sick after getting a flu shot although I've heard some people say that. I heard that if you get sick it has nothing to do with the shot. I do know once you get the shot, it takes up to two weeks before it becomes fully effective.

Oh my goodness! Two winters ago, I was feeling sick, so I asked my mother if she had anything that I could take. She, a huge Chris Rock fan, said "Go downstairs and get some of that Tussin." As I walked downstairs, I thought to myself "that woman watches too much television."

What a surprise it was to me when I opened the cabinet to find a bottle of actual Tussin. No, Robi in front of it, just Tussin. She had bought the cheap drug store brand and it was just called Tussin.

I burst out laughing right there. I forgot all about my cold. My mother made me feel better without even knowing it.

EWWWWWWWW Honey Hush with all that Casteroil talk. I took it one time and I couldn't cook with Crisco for MONTHS!

Now me, I am a witness to a Hot Toddie (sp)
My recipe...

Hot Tea
Real Lemon Juice ( I prefer slices )
Honey ( 1 TBSP)
1 shot of Grand dad, Hennessey, or Crown Royal (not all 3 just pick #1)

It will make you sweat that cold right out of your system
