GPA Question

I'm planning to rush at Auburn in the fall of 2010 as a freshman, but I figure this applies for most SEC universities with competitive rush.

I attended a highly competitive high school and as result have a some-what low GPA. I'm not trying to slack-off and blame my course rigor for a less than stellar GPA in comparison to other schools (I have a 3.2 unweighted, 3.8 weighted) but I'm a little bit concerned I took all-honors class (which are un-weighted in our GPA style) and took 8 APs during my 4 years. Will I look like I didn't do so well in school in comparison to other rushees? Auburn also asks for SAT, so I'm hoping maybe that will show the difference?

Am I just nervous for nothing? lol

Give your weighted GPA. You took all honors classes so you deserve to count your extra credit. I used my weighted GPA for recruitment GPA. If there is a question that comes up, confidently state that you took honors classes so that at your school GPAs are weighted for the honors courses. Everyone knows how that works so don't worry about it.

Since Auburn Panhellenic requires a final transcript to be submitted before recruitment, does your transcript list a 3.2 or a 3.8? If it is a 3.2, try and have your rec writers explain the discrepancy. I know you can't tell them what to say, but if they can emphasize the fact that you took honors and AP classes, it might help.

Make sure you include in your resume (thats sent in with recs) and your recruitment application that you took those honors courses and then also include any clubs, sports, leadership roles, ect that you were involved in. Also list how long you were involved in these things. Detailed is best. This will help the chapters see that even though you may not have the highest GPA, you were involved a lot and well rounded, thus having attributes that could benefit their sorority.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions I'm fairly sure my transcript lists both (when I sent mine in to apply to Auburn it did, so I can't imagine any reason why it wouldn't once I graduated), but I'll definitely check into it.

According to the Auburn sorority recruitment website:

You will need to know your final high school GPA for your registration. We ask that you report it on a 4.0 scale. Weighting for honors and AP classes is allowed. So, get that ready before you begin.

This appeared on the page that you see when you click to register for recruitment. Be sure to read the website thoroughly, there's lots of good advice there. Good luck!
