TV Show Videotaped Raid That Killed Detroit Girl

I don't remember seeing this on here, but wow.

(May 18) -- A reality-TV crew videotaped the Detroit police raid in which 7-year-old Aiyana Jones was shot to death, and the girl's family is suing the police.

"The videotape shows clearly that the assistant police chief and the officers on the scene are engaging in an intentional cover-up of the events," Geoffrey Fieger, the family's attorney, told The Associated Press. He filed the suit today in U.S. District Court, alleging police needlessly threw a flash grenade into the home, burning Aiyana before she was shot.

A video filmed by the crew of A&E's reality-TV show "The First 48" captured the raid, which set out to arrest a murder suspect but ended with Aiyana's death.

Not excusing what the officer may have done, but harboring a murder suspect is a risky business, not to mention, a felony. If these folks were knowingly harboring a murder suspect, the police breaking in and shooting the place up is a risk they brought on themselves.

From what I understand the home was split into TWO separate units although the police did have warrants for both, but they KNEW he was not in the one where the girl resided.

Either way it's no excuse. While I certainly agree, you don't invite trouble into your home, even IF they had (which apparently they did NOT), that little girl had no say in the matter and did nothing wrong. She was sleeping in her couch.

This is bullcrap! There's no excuse for killing a 7 year old innocent little girl.

Anybody else feel that the reality show might have an effect on how the police acted while the camera was on? Trying to get that little effect going?

No I don't feel that at all. And if that's the case, it's completely unacceptable and makes them look worse in my opinion.

I'm curious where you got all that, because I haven't heard ANY of it.

You'd actually think that being on camera would make them less likely to shoot up a house from the front porch and then lie about how they killed a 7 year old. You know since there's a record.

That show's been on for a while, it's not like new and surprise cameras showed up.

Not to mention that this show isn't at all like "COPS." The First 48 is a really well-done show, and it's pretty real and drama-free.

Why would the cops raid the house if they KNEW he wasn't there?

I saw it in an article on yahoo. I'd link but I'm really just not going to go find that for you. I read it in the article. If they have retracted that portion at some point since two days ago please feel free to post that too.

Ok, that article says it was a duplex and that they had warrants to search both but it doesn't say that they knew which one he was in. It does say they arrested him in the upper flat. It doesn't say whether that was before or after the little girl was shot.
I
It's tragic that this little girl was shot but I get what the Detroit police go through too. They are just a couple weeks post burying one of their own who was shot during a similar situation.

I will reserve judgment until it is all investigated. It is so very difficult to take anything Fieger says seriously. Thank goodness HE decided not to run for governor again.

Good call, Fieger is a walking, talking side-show.

The fact that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were at the little girl's funeral is like spitting on the grave of the 17 year old. (who's funeral hasn't even happened yet but I believe it is today) This CHILD was murdered because of a stare down. He was murdered by someone who was a habitual offender. He was murdered by a man who hid in a house with a young child in it. If the family wants to put blame on anyone, they should blame their own.

Where was that duo when the 17 year old was murdered? And where were they when the Detroit officer was murdered during a raid a few weeks ago? I'm sorry. I find them completely disgusting.

What's wrong with Sharpton and Jackson coming to the girl's funeral? Why should they have been there when the 17 yo and the Detroit officer were murdered?

Oh and the family should blame "their own" what? Who should the family blame?
