Not sure about what chapter his mother is in..still trying to find out that one. If anyone knows, please share.
Vince was initiated in Omicron Omicron (Daytona Beach, FL).
Thanks for the reply!

Lightbulb Tom Joyner

A woman called into the Tom Joyner Show the other day to report this. She said that her husband is a member of the chapter and that they had initiated him the night before. Tom Joyner went on and on about Vince Carter not being "real". He said that he (Tom) would not give Vince "grip" if he saw him. Did anyone else hear this? Tom really went on about it.

GET A "GRIP"

I am sure Vince will be alright if he does not get the GRIP from Tom Joyner. If Tom Joyner has issues with Vince he should have issues with all the Greeks after MIP was established....about 10 years ago!
Never cared for TOM Joyner and his TIRED A$$ show, but now I can honestly and truly say that he is the one that needs to get a "GRIP".

I wonder, Soror, would Tom Joyner give the "grip" to Shaq Daddy, who is also a fraternity brother of TJ and your VC?

That sounds really crazy that Tom would say that "in mixed company." It's one thing to think it, another to say it, but quite another IMO to say it on such an avenue. How sad that he would say.

on the outside looking in..

fellow Greeks..

Bro. Tom Joyner was wrong for putting the "fake" stuff out in public in a Nationally syndicated show such as his.

There's always more to a situation than the outside eye can see.

The issue with Vince is that he had the opportunity to cross at UNC on the same line as the starting pt guard on his UNC team, Bro. Shammond Williams.

Vince had the grades to do it.. but chose to go the Grad route. That's the reason why Tom was saying that there'd be no 'instant love' for Vince.. (which all the Bruhs subscribe too anyway).

The rest of the who's and what's and what happened when Vince was at UNC will remain in the realm of Omega. But, VC is a initiated member of the world's greatest fraternal order of college educated men..

I totally understand the point you made and "figured" there had to be more to the story. Thanks for clarifying because you did not have to do that.

Greeks,
There is always another viewpoint to a story. HOWEVER, Vince is an OMEGA now, so what is the big deal? It does not make a difference whether he did it Undergrad or Grad. I CROSSED into AKA as an undergrad soror (Sp. '89) and very blessed to have that opportunity, but I know people go Graduate for many reasons.
What has me curious is the above quote about "ALL BRUHS SUBSCRIBE TO IT ANYWAY" What exactly does that mean.? Just need some clarification on that so that I do not assume. I could assume a lot, but would probably get some hate mail, so I rather keep those comments to myself.
I just do not get the HATING that people get when they are initiated into Sororities and Fraternities these days. We all have Membership Intake now and Vince would have had Membership Intake regardless of whether he was Undergrad or Grad..he is only 25.
But anywhoooo, CONGRATS to ALL MAN...ALL AMAZING! I hope to see him play a few times this year. After seeing him play again in August, I could see the gleam back in his eyes. If Vince displays his affiliation with Omega, I am sure some of the HATING BRUHS will enjoy the publicity and stop hating....at least for 5 seconds.

Uh, Swamp, are you sure about the same line as Shammond? He crossed in '95 when I was at UNC, and wasn't even on campus when Vince came to UNC, so that might be incorrect.

Nikki

Shammond was one year ahead of Vince academically. When Shammond was a academic senior, Vince was a junior (the year he left for the NBA draft)

Unhappy huh? hatin'?

I'm confused about the hating comment. Being famous as a candidate means nothing to the Brotherhood. When a famous person completes MIP, inside the circle of Omega, said person is not (for example), Vince Carter NBA Basketball star. Said person would be Bro. Vincent Carter Omicron Omicron chapter '02.

Once again without going too much into the culture of Omega, our Fraternity prefers that brothers come in through the undergrad chapter at their university if that option existed for them. That goes for any Man. All candidates seeking membership through a Grad Chapter get a 'background' check through Bruhs from the chapter of the candidates university to see if/why said person showed interest while in school or to find out what factors were the cause of said person not gaining interest in Omega at the undergrad level.

It could be something, for example, as simple as the candidate showed interest in another org. Can't speak for the other D9, but we don't allow candidates membership into Omega if they showed formal interest in another org. Sometimes, dudes want to try Omega after they've graduated because they logically think that a Grad Chapter won't know that they tried to be out for (inter another fraternity here) as an undergrad.

-- that was just an example. bottom line.. outside the Org there's the trappings of fame for certain Bruhs, but inside the org, all those trappings are non-existant due to our duties and love to and from one brother to another... If you don't have the '4', you don't get the '20'.. and if you don't exemplify the '20', you don't get the LOVE..
