Rushing as a transfer @ UF

Hey! I am currently going to transfer to the University of Florida, in the fall and I really would like to rush but I will be considered a Junior as of Fall 09. I know rushing as a Junior is MUCH harder, but could anyone give advice on rushing as a junior, I plan on staying at the university for longer than 2 yrs by getting my masters. Is there any advice to better my chances of getting bids from houses (exp..letters of recc?))?? Any help id appreciate soooo much !!

Rushing as a junior at Florida is competitive.

It's probably moreso for a transfer, because you don't know many people on campus or women in sororities.

Recs are a must because I can guarantee you that most of the freshmen will have them.

The best thing to do is go in and be open minded to all of the chapters you're meeting. Also, don't be surprised if you experience heavy cuts early on. As with most schools, there are likey going to be chapters that (for whatever reason) just prefer freshman PNMs.

Are you in Gainesville now?

If you are, I suggest you really get out there and meet all of the sosority women you can that are also there for summer session. You will have to step it up and just introduce yourself to people and use this time to your advantage.

Your quest will be a tough one! You really need the whole package to stand a chance - from amazing grades, recs, personality, conversation, involvement, confidence and the list goes on. Please prepare yourself for every avenue.

Best of Luck!

Seriously... Can we cut the shit for once?

There are MAYBE a few groups that would seriously consider taking a junior transfer. The only exception would be if upperclassman quotas are in effect here. Then, she might have a shot if the houses like her... Still a long shot.

Other than that, you would need to look at the houses on campus who need/want to get up to total.

So, maybe girl has a shot. But, let's be honest to her... By "heavy cuts," she should know she'll probably be dropped from MOST houses the first round. After that, maybe she'll have three-four houses left in the running.

It's not impossible... It's is not PROBABLE, either. This is UF, peeps.

It's like telling a junior transfer going to Ole Miss -- go out and meet the XOs, DDDs, DGs... Maybe if you befriend them they can have some pull with getting you in... Really? One girl knowing you from a summer class alone is gonna change the minds of 150 other girls who just know you as a junior transfer? Doubtful.

KNOW YOUR ROLE, advice-giving-peeps.

Excuse me Tippiechick, but I did attend there, was part of the system, have volunteered time, and maybe I just do know a little something about UF.

She will have it tough and I stated that, but transfers can be pledged and have pledged. It is not impossible - hard yes, not impossible. It all depends what she brings to the table during recruitment. That is what her situation is all about.

I don't care where you went, how much you've volunteered, ETC... I call bullshit when I see it. And, you are giving this girl what could and probably will be false hope.

Why can't you be honest with her? Are you afraid it would make UF look evil to admit it's a tough place to rush as an upperclassman? I went to Ole Miss, and by damn, it's tough as shit to get in a house as an upperclassman.

Is it impossible to get in a house? NO. But, I suppose it is also not impossible for me to bump into Jason Statham tomorrow. It's not probable. But, I suppose I could tell myself that it depends on the particular situation and circumstances. I'd rather not lie to myself -- it's not likely.

BTW, you do realize your reply just AGREED WITH EVERYTHING I SAID, RIGHT?

So, what was the point? You wanted me to know you went to UF? Please... I've been on here enough to research where someone went to school and what group they are in in order to know where their head is in a discussion.

Why beat around the bush telling someone the truth about rush? Just say it bluntly. No one does any favors on here by telling people to, "Go meet sorority girls," or "Make friends in houses," or "Make sure you have the total package." Just tell them the truth and don't blow sunshine up their ass.

But was she a transfer? There's a big difference between a junior who has already been on campus for two years, is involved and knows a lot of people and a junior transfer with little to know connections.

Rushing as a junior at both FSU and UF is difficult, yes. However, it is NOT impossible to get a bid. I say this because I have seen it done by people at both schools.

I think it's pretty safe to say that it is not impossible to do so, but that one must be open minded and consider all chapters because like it or not, every chapter is not going to be interested in a junior transfer.

Your chances are not going to be the same as a freshman.

She wasn't, but my Heart Sister was - from Tallahassee CC. So, not impossible, just more difficult than if you had come into recruitment as a Freshman, most definately.

That was the whole point of my post. Not impossible. Just not probable.
