question from a rushee!
hi everyone!!
i have just a question. here at IU, our rush doesnt start til november, then finishes in january. theres a house im interested in, and i contacted a girl i graduated with thats in that house, and told her i was interested. she said i could come over for dinner sometime next week to learn more about them. now my question is this. ive never been in a sorority house and stuff. i want to get in with these girls! so how should i act? like myself, i know, but should i be complimentary, or kind of gushing, or calm and cool? i dunno. i need help from the experts!!! thanks guys

I know when I was rushing it really got my attention when girls would ask a great deal of questions (but I guess don't overdue it-hard to know though), it really made me feel as if they were very interested plus you get to know the chapter better.

listen a bunch..
work on your conversational skills.
be aware of what they are all about before you go (do a little homework)
also in view of the world, be awaare of what's going on, just in case that comes up.

Use like interview tips: Smile alot, make eye contact, and thank them when you leave, and use compliments like "this house is so pretty!", also try and remember there names. It makes people feel more comfortable and it is a way of secretly telling them that you are interested in the sorority by trying to get to know the members. Plus, i would ask questions about the stuff they do on campus....if they have a chapter website that would be a good place to start.
what organizations are at your school?

I agree with everyone else, definately be yourself. You can usually figure out when someone isnt Relax and stay cool and just smile like your having a good day, after all these girls were all in your shoes at one point. They are no different then you are. I always think it helps to go in thinking positive, but to never have high expectations. Another thing you notice with alot of girl is that they dont speak up, but sit smile and nod..... NEVER be afraid to speak in a convo or initiate one
Have a good time!

mmcat is right. You never know what topic might come up. What's that old line, "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool than to open it and prove it?" Or something like that. Anyway, be as informed as possible short of being a walking Trivial Pursuit Game.
