What TV shows/movies/books influenced your view of HS/college?

These 2 posts cracked me up.
I seriously thought college would be a cross between A Different World and Felicity. It was neither, even though I ended up going to NYU (NOT because of Felicity, mind you, i just ended up getting a full ride there).
As for HS, I thought it was like Dawson's Creek and SBTB. Maybe like Laura and Eddie on Family Matters. Instead, I got more like Stand and Deliver crossed with Dangerous Minds.
ETA: as for my teen years in general, i really thought i shouldve lived like Moesha, which, IIRC, aired through middle school and early HS for me. why is it that most of the teen programming was set in (often) fictional California towns?

Felicity for me all the way. I'm not sure what it turned out like, but I even thought all the colors would be darker and semi-sepia toned.
I had a vivid imagination. Sadly, I've never been to a Dean & Deluca.
When I was really little I remember hoping that when I was in high school my parents would let me dress like Tiffany.

you know, i'd NEVER seen a Dean & Deluca, much less knew where it was, or what it was (apparently more than a coffee shop) until i went to a Borders bookstore, obviously off-campus.

Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High! As well as a show called "In Our Lives" which came on in DC. It was like a cross between Degrassi and Teen Summit.
Even though the kids in Degrassi were their correct ages, to this very DAY I don't think high school kids looked as old when I was there as they did on TV.

I love that I got quoted.
In addition, I also somehow got it in my head (at age 10 or 11 when the movie came out) that high school was going to be just like Clueless.
I was certain that I was going to have a bf that looked JUST like Donald Faison and drive an awesome Jeep.
PS. I also was pretty sure I was going to find my Donald Faison-bf freshman year and we were going to be together for all 4 years of HS and get married.
Honorable mention for what I thought HS was going to be like: Saved by the Bell. I couldn't wait to be a cheerleader like Kelly and have a cool phone like Zack.

FAME...I attended a visual and performing arts school.
There was no Debbie Allen with a stick to motivate me. No hotties like Michael DeLorenzo (though he was too adorable on reruns of NY Undercover). No Janet Jackson, Jasmine Guy, Don Cheadle, just Margaret Cho as an alumna.
Please tell me someone else remembers that strange Head of the Class show with Dr. Johnny Fever of WKRP as a teacher. I mean Michael DeLorenzo, cute again, and Robin Givens, wtf!
I should have gone to private girls boarding school, ala the Facts of Life

This is exactly what I wanted high school to be like. And I had a Mr. Feeny frosh year, but it was a woman. She announced she was resigning right before the season finale, so when Topanga said goodbye to Feeny I thought about my fave teacher leaving and cried like a baby for like an hour.
Duuuuuude I just KNEW college would be like ADW, especially since I was going to an HBCU. You couldn't tell me I wouldn't meet Dwayne in orientation, date through all 4 years and then have him break up in my wedding to someone else and have me marry him at the last second. I wanted to be a cross between Kim and Freddie--studious but passionate.
Then, if I didn't marry a cool cat with flip up glasses, I'd graduate and move into an NY brownstone with a few of my closest friends, a la Living Single.

Or, marry him and end up living in an awesome brownstone and becoming Cliff and Claire Huxtable.
Still waiting on them to adopt me.

I might be showing my age, but I wanted high school to be just like 16 Candles.
Alas, no Jake Ryan rescued me on my 16th birthday. sigh.

I never thought of myself or my friends as old when we were in High School. I thought many of us looked relatively young for our ages. But a couple years after I graduated a friend of the family (she's 4 years younger than I am) looked at my senior yearbook and said "wow you all look SOOOOO OLD" I was shocked. lol.
I can't really say that any shows etc influenced my views of HS/college. But I will say that I wished my high school was more like Saved by the Bell.

for whatever foolish reasons i thought HS was going to be a cross between Head of the Class (thx for the reminder!) and Sweet Valley.
i was always in advanced/magnet programs and that was the only tv show that reflected my assumption of what a challenging HS would be about. the sweet valley element comes from, umm, i have no clue!
i just KNEW college was going to be like Higher Learning (sans shooting) and House Party. No comment on how it really turned out, though.
