Also if you can contact your rec writers so they can mention it do so. A 4.0 is an achievement you should be proud of and mention.

This is what I was going to recommend. While your first semester grades were, let's face it, rather shaky, you have demonstrated that you can be a scholarship asset to a chapter. Some people do struggle that first semester with adjusting to all that college offers.
A pledge sister of mine made a 2.0 the first semester and couldn't get initiated with the rest of our class (back the old semester-long days). After that she made a 4.0 every semester and served as our scholarship chair. A first semester blip can and does happen.
There may be chapters that just look at the overall GPA, but if there is any way that you can indicate your accomplishment in the spring semester I would make sure that it can stand out- give it prime real estate place on your resume. This includes both to people writing your recs and to the panhell/recruitment form.
Finally- kddani is right. Work on your communication skills in the time you have left before rush. Have some go-to topics that you are comfortable talking about and just do your very best to NOT appear shy. (Shy can be misinterpreted for aloof). You have 15 minutes to let the members know who you are and what you are about. You are just going to have to get out of the comfort zone and be the best conversationalist that you can be.
Good luck! I have friends that were in the Tech system and it is a good one.
