UNC Wilmington?

Can anyone tell me what recruitment is like at UNCW? Is it super competitive like other schools in the south? How about "non traditional" PMN's? Are recs necessary?

The reason I ask is because I worked with a wonderful young lady over the summer and I really think I got her sold on the idea of greek life. She moved to Wilmington about a month ago and will be attending the local CC there for fall classes and registering at UNCW when she is eligible for in-state tuition. I know they do fall recruitment there and here's the deal-she will be 20 by the time that happens, but technically will be a sophomore I guess. Are there any chapters that do spring recruitment? She's living all on her own in Wilmington, paying her own way and everything, which I think is pretty damn impressive considering she's only 19 now and knew absolutely NO ONE when she decided to move down there. I've told her all about how great my experience was as a collegian, and even though she pays her own way, I've told her ad nauseum about the financial committment and she seems to think its something that would be worth putting in the extra money for.

Anyway, any advice would be much appreciated!

My babysitter is rushing there this fall, and asking around I don't think recs are huge. They are definitely appreciated, but if she doesn't have any, it didn't sound like it would hurt her. Of course, I am not directly associated with the campus, so take this with a grain of salt.
