How does your campus handle Bid Distribution?
On my campus, the girls line up in alphabetical order. They're then escorted into the Panhellenic office by their Rho Gamma and given their bid. A member of Panhellenic says they can either accept, deny or take 24 hours. They exercise an option and are led back out to wait for our individualized "call-out" of the girl and her sorority. It takes about an hour and a half with about 100 girls. (all girls who don't recieve bids get the "phone call", so they're not in the picture)
Panhellenic wants to keep the individualized call out - it's a great thing and is very positive. Each girl gets cheered for. But the part we're thinking about trying to change is the individual time in the office.
Negatives are:
- Sometimes the individualized time with Rho Gammas leads to a little more drama and tears than is really necessary. They've had all night to ponder the possibilites, but it makes some girls extremely anxious.
- The length of time they have to wait sometimes just puts the nerves to test.
- It emphasizes the "CHOICE" they have to make, when in reality on Pref they said they would accept one of the two sororities they listed.
A positive:
- It lets the sororites know who is denying their bid before call-out.
Also, our Panhellenic lets girls take five minutes to call their parents if they wish before they accept. Is this allowed? What should we do with girls who deny bids or take 24 hours?
Does anyone have any imput? Describing your bid distribution would help too.
