Bid Day Logistics

How does your campus handle Bid Distribution?

On my campus, the girls line up in alphabetical order. They're then escorted into the Panhellenic office by their Rho Gamma and given their bid. A member of Panhellenic says they can either accept, deny or take 24 hours. They exercise an option and are led back out to wait for our individualized "call-out" of the girl and her sorority. It takes about an hour and a half with about 100 girls. (all girls who don't recieve bids get the "phone call", so they're not in the picture)

Panhellenic wants to keep the individualized call out - it's a great thing and is very positive. Each girl gets cheered for. But the part we're thinking about trying to change is the individual time in the office.

Negatives are:
  • Sometimes the individualized time with Rho Gammas leads to a little more drama and tears than is really necessary. They've had all night to ponder the possibilites, but it makes some girls extremely anxious.
  • The length of time they have to wait sometimes just puts the nerves to test.
  • It emphasizes the "CHOICE" they have to make, when in reality on Pref they said they would accept one of the two sororities they listed.

A positive:
  • It lets the sororites know who is denying their bid before call-out.

Also, our Panhellenic lets girls take five minutes to call their parents if they wish before they accept. Is this allowed? What should we do with girls who deny bids or take 24 hours?

Does anyone have any imput? Describing your bid distribution would help too.

Here's how we do bid distribution on my campus: Instead of individually calling them into the office, our Gamma Chis (Rho gammas) are given all the bids for the girls in their original groups. Bids are handed out to the girls and then all the groups open them simultaneously. Then the girls gather into groups with girls who got bids from the same chapter they did, and then as a group they go to the sorority house.

We were called the night before bid day by our Rho Chi and told either that we got a bid or that we didn't. If we did get a bid, we went to the Student Union during a certain time the next day (Bid Day) and picked up our bids. The bids told us to be somewhere on campus at 5pm that day to meet our pledge class. Then the seniors and pledge educator picked us up and we drove around campus and over to the house.

At UAB where there are around 100 or so PNMs, they give them out all at once at an assembly in the University Ctr and they all open them simultaneously. Then they all run over together to the mini park where the groups are waiting for their Bid Day activities. You rarely "lose" anyone that way as everyone is excited and they all run together. We used to do it similar to the way you do, Daisy, but the drama got to be too much and centered too much attention on those that weren't happy with their bid...thereby putting a damper on everyone else.

we do it similar to perfectinpurple. Our pi chi's get the bids for their girls and give them out in a group. Then if any girls have a problem with their bid the can discuss it before the running out. Then they send girls out to each sorority who are lined up outside, in groups of two or three at a time while everyone cheers. Of course we only have 5 sororities though
