Fake ID's
ok Here's the deal I'm only 17*which by the way majorly sucks!!* Well anyways a bunch of friends and I were wanting to go to this club this weekend and a friend of mine said that he could make me a fake ID but Im a bit iffy about it. Im so scared that it wont get me in or I will get in trouble for having it. Gosh I hate being so young sometimes! Do you guys think I should give it a try or just pass it up?

be weary.
if had better be fool-proof if he's making it
when it's fabricated, it's a federal offense (I believe)
but if it's someone else that just looks like you, they just take it

not all of them just take it. Bars usually do but liquor stores pretty much know when a fake ia a fake. My friend says they have taken quite a few from under aged people.

i hate to sound shallow, but if you're cute, the bouncer may just slip you in anyways. the clubs in dc will happily send minors in to dance in the clubs, but won't serve you alcohol.
personally, i'd shoot for the 18 id anyways if you're 17. no one will believe you're 21 unless that id is absolutely flawless, if you just wanna get in the club and it's 18+, get one like that.

PUNISHMENT FOR GETTING CAUGHT USING A FAKE ID:
not much - depends . . . generally a small fine, sometimes 'points' on your drivers license. Usually it is just taken at the door, and thrown away - or more likely, rejected and given back.
PUNISHMENT FOR GETTING CAUGHT MAKING FAKE ID:
now THIS is your felony. Don't do this. Very stupid. I don't care how easy it is to get materials and supplies off the internet, and how readily the instructions and guides can be found - federal offense. That, and they just STIFFENED the punishment . . . it was big news last year around this time.
If you really need to get in, and are not worried about the punishment . . . a 'real' ID w/ someone else's face = false representation of age, while a 'fake' id = falsifying of gov't documents . . . hmmmm tough call there.
Inquiring minds want to know, kiddies . . . make sure you know.

The Perfect ID
atually, if you want to know something that I think is absolutely fool-proof, then here it is. Have you heard of an ISIC card? It's the international student identification card. All you do is one of two things, send the actual association all of your information, then they send the card to you, and you insert your photo, or go to the international affairs center on your campus and give them your actual info except a 21-yr-old birthdate as well as your picture. They don't look up to confirm your info, they sit there and make it in front of you. The cost of this id is, however, $26, but I feel it'd be a prime investment since you've so long until you're actually 21!
Now, that you have an id, you need a reason to have that rather than a drivers license. One possibility is that you're epileptic and are not allowed to drive or possess a drivers license because of the possibility that a seizure could occur while driving. A second is (now this entirely depends on skin tone) that you're doing a semester abroad at your university and you're actually from <insert place you could be from>. The second is golden as well, because the id doesn't say where you're from, only where you're studying at. It's virtually fool-proof, in my opinion. I've begun telling friends without id's to do that, but no one has yet. Though actually, I know as soon as my friend returns from the UK to UofK, I know for certain that she's going to try it. It's so money, they won't even know it!

If you're planning to Rush at your university, let me repeat some advice given earlier. Stay out of bars. They don't help your reputation, and you never know who could misinterpret, misunderstand, or lie about things that you do. Be careful. You dont want to be viewed as a risk management issue.

Thanks so much for your help everyone! My friend made me a student ID card with my DOB on it. Our usual Student ID cards don't have our birthday's on there but hopefully the club bouncers wont know the difference. I am just getting one to say that I am 18. Im pretty sure i couldn't pass for 21 besides I have plenty of 21 year old friends who can get me alcohol if I want it. Thanks again for your advice!!

Well said. I never even dared to attempt it. "I left my ID at home" worked best.

I live in Wisconsin and our state drivers license is one of the hardest to duplicate because of all the damn holograms and other hidden things..and a lot of places won't accept an out of state id w/o a seond form of state identification. So, most ppl are out getting fake wisconsin drivers licenses made. Most of the places around here will just take the id and make you leave....i've been in a few stores and bars where they actually have a "stars of the week" board where they hang up all the fake id's they captured within the last week...lol...
I'm with ex greek..if you are asked for an id.....you left it at home....just leave it at that...

I'm telling you, anyone that needs an ID, the ISIC is the way to go. Has all the info you need, takes nothing at all to get, and is the only form of ID recognized worldwide, next to a passport. It's so solid, I wish I'd thought of it before I turned 21.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Getting busted for being a minor in possesion will not help your chances either.

Well - I'm a bit past 21 but I have to say that I love that ISIC card. If you ever want to bum around Europe you HAVE to have one 'cause you get some mad discounts on flights and train tickets. They do look like they'd be easy to alter or cheat with too - although I never tried. (Just didn't want you to feel ignored )
