Question about membership
So I am about to be a sophmore in college. I pledged my freshman year however I am wanting to transfer to a different college. I wont be able to transfer for the fall semester for sure but I have a chance of getting in spring semester but its not definite. While I am waiting to transfer I was wanting to take classes at my community college which I might end up having to do for a year. My question is will I still be able to join the chapter at the college I transfer to even if I am technically out of it for up to a year?

If you're a Kappa Kappa Gamma (or any other NPC group), the KKG chapter does not have to accept you as a transfer member, in which case you would become an alumna.

What I am asking is if I will even have the opportunity to be accepted. I know that they must accept me once I transfer. But I am wondering if I will still be eligible.

No, they don't have to accept you if you transfer to a second school. They would have to meet you and vote all over again.

You are still not understanding what I am asking but thank you for trying to help. I'm not sure how else to explain what I am trying to ask.

I think you're asking if the amount of time between your old school and the new school matters? In other words, if a year passes before you transfer to the new school with the chapter you want to affiliate with, is that a problem?
I think the best thing to do is call Kappa headquarters and ask them. My guess is that it doesn't matter whether it's 3 months or 15 months between transferring, because being accepted by a different college can take time, what with admissions deadlines. However, only Kappa could tell you for sure exactly what their transfer affiliation procedures and policies are.

Yes, you have to be enrolled at the school where the chapter is located as chapter members have to be students at THAT school. What an individual chapter's affiliation rules are can vary. You would need to check on that with that chapter or your national office. You will most likely need verification from your present chapter that you left in good standing. While you are not enrolled in a school with a chapter of your group, you would most likely be considered an alumna. It may be that you would have to petition for reinstatement as a collegian. Once again, your national HQ can advise you on all their procedures.

If you mean to ask if you can participate in the chapter activities (at either your current school or the school you'll transfer to after being admitted) while you're at the community college or not enrolled in either of the universities, the answer is no.

Are you asking if you can go from active to alumna (while you are away from a school with a KKG chapter), then revert BACK to active status (if you transfer to a school with a KKG chapter)?
Only KKG IHQ can really answer that for you.

Thank you! Yes, this is what I was trying to ask!
To everyone else I know that I can not affiliate with either chapter while I am not enrolled... that seems pretty obvious

carnation - not every NPC sorority requires another vote when a member transfers schools.

For some groups, once you go alum (which you automatically will if you leave your current chapter in good standing) you can't be an active
collegian again even if you re-enroll in a school that has an active chapter. For others, "stopping out" is no big deal. As another poster said your best bet is to call Kappa HQ and ask.

If you are in good standing with your chapter, you are likely eligible for Associate Membership status. Contact your chapter president or advisory board chairman to discuss your situation. You need to do this ASAP, as you're supposed to make the request the term before you need the status, but it can be done later. HQ can guide you as to the procedures, but you have to go through your chapter to request the status.
