Donations- will EVERYONE benefit?

It has been reported that donations to the Red Cross and other agencies will NOT be shared among ALL who were affected by the Sept. 11 incident.

Many have expressed that those who worked in places like Morgan Stanley or Dean Witter and other prosperous companies will benefit more from the incident. While families of those who were janitors, maintenance workers, and other "low" paying jobs will not receive as much or any benefits from the various agencies.

If one would like to donate to SPECIFIC AA families, one can log on to www.blackamericaweb.com and donate funds to SPECIFIC families who are in desperate need of assistance. Daily, Tom Joyner spotlights a family or someone who passed away or is missing and examines the plight and reveals how that family is in desperate need of assistance.

Strictly FYI.

i hope that is not true

if that is the case then i am not susprised because there always seems to be some reason why certain people's suffering get more attention then others. i was listening to Mfume speaking at the black caucus and he said hey lets have unity among americans all the time not just in time of war or tragedy, sure now folks want unity. but its back to normal once folks feel they are in control again. Mr. Mfume is soo on point, i can't even list all the truths he spoke on. dang dang dang. black folks can not afford to sleep, no matter how tired we are.

Cool You did it again!

2D, you brought us to the light again! Good post!
For some time now, I have been skeptical of such agencies/programs as FEED THE CHILDREN, UNITED WAY, ETC. I worked as a telemarketer briefly for the Feed the Children program and asked the manager what percentage of the proceeds we brought in went to African American children. She went to get her supervisor, and they asked me to leave. I heard several crazy-azzed stories about United Way too. Has anyone else worked for a philanthropy that they had suspicions about?

Post Telethon

I heard something on the news last week that Joan Rivers did not participate in the Friday night telethon because the money was not going directly to victims and/or families. I think that is what I heard.

I've always been wary of all these organizations. I know that in South Carolina, a "Scrooge" list is published every year. It lists the agencies and how much they actually contribute to the cause they are collecting for.

Question Good point

I agree that this is an important issue that needs to be discussed more. What about all the organizations in cities across America that need donations? When their annual holiday drive comes around will there be money for them?

During the telecast, it was mentioned that the monies donated/pledged on THAT Friday would go directly to the United Way or the AM Red Cross. Then after that Friday, the money collected would go "wherever", it would be at the discretion of the organizers.
