osama bin laden - man of the year?

what do you think about osama bin laden being named time magazine's man of the year?

i was watching tv earlier today and he pretty much seems to be a lock. however, there are a lot of people who are protesting big time, about his receiving this "honor". a few past controversial recipients were stalin and ayatullah khomeini.

this is the basic criteria, according to the time magazine website:

each of the last 70 years, TIME has presented a man of the year--the single person (man, woman, or even idea) who, for better or worse, has most influenced events in the preceding year.

Based on those criteria, I would say that Bin Laden should have won. He has had the most influence of anybody this year.

In most cases, a Man of the Year Award would be considered an honor. But, this is not meant to be an honor. It's just a recognition of impact someone has on the world around them.

Post Well...

I guess Jeb Bush was pretty "influential" as well.

Who gets it if Osama doesn't? Did they list the potentials? Influential in WORLD events, or just in the US?

Girl, I live on the right down the street from that "man." I can't stand those Bushes. But, I think with the election he was more "influential" in 2000, although the impact was definitely felt this year too.

BTW, my father serves on a board with Janet Reno. After a recent conversation, he said that she doesn't feel the way Jeb does on a lot of issues concerning minorities. Hoprfully, she'll be elected governor in Florida and send his a$$ back to wherever he comes from.
