Coastal Carolina University's Sigma Sigma Sigma chapter is raising money to help the family of a member who was beaten with a hammer.

Erin Prince Gould, 26, remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Members of Sigma Sigma Sigma are raising money to help Gould's family from Ohio with the costs of traveling to and staying in North Carolina while she recovers.

Gould's husband, 24-year-old Cpl. Jonathan Matthew Gould, remains in Onslow County Jail with his bail set at $1 million. He is charged with attempted first-degree murder. Investigators say he struck his wife in the head three times with a hammer.

Erin Gould is in the first trimester of her pregnancy.

Yvonne Shendo, who has known Erin Gould for about eight years, "jumped the gun" and bought the domain name www.erinprince.com before discussing it with her sorority sisters, she said.

"I got the idea because there were a lot of people feeling kind of helpless about Erin's situation. She's got friends all over the country . . . .Shendo, 26, said . . . .

"I want to raise as much as possible and if things go as well as they're going I think it'll be possible for us to raise $10,000 or $15,000 over the next couple months," Shendo said.

The money, she said, will go from the Web site's secure account directly to Erin Gould's family. . . .

Jonathan Gould initially blamed an intruder for the attack but later confessed to hitting his wife with the hammer, according to the Sheriff's Department. . . .
