Mary J. Blige
Hello to the Lovely Ladies of AKA, sister and brother friends. I stopped by to tell you about my recent encounter with Mary J. Blige here in Nashville last weekend.
Well, last Saturday, a few of my frat brothers, friends and myself attended the "No More Drama" tour and to my surprise, Mary was off the hook! She sang all of her hits and a few obscure tunes. No bad notes or anything. Her background singers were off the hook. She sanged this tune called "Children of the Ghetto" that left me speechless. On all of her tunes, Mary sounded just like the cd...better if you asked me. I've seen Mary perform "No More Drama" many times on t.v, however, until you've seen her perform it live in concert, you have yet to hear it....whew, she was feeling it.
I'm glad to see she's made positive changes in her life. She told us that, "I'm no longer an alcoholic, I'm not longer on drugs, and I'm not a slut anymore." I was taken aback by the last comment, but at least she was honest.
I'm not sure if she's wrapped up the tour, but if you get a chance to catch it, you might want to see Ms.Blige in action. A lot of celebrities were in attendance as well. She is definately the Aretha Franklin of our time. I'm in no way an avid Mary fan, but being a musician myself, I truly understand, and recognize good music and good "sanging" when I hear it. Some of these other artist couldn't hold a match to Mary. It kind of reminded me when they put Coco (from SWV) on the same stage as Chaka Khan on one of those "Motown Live" shows. I don't even have to tell yall how that went down.

I know she will be in the Charlotte area soon. I have every cd and consider myself a fan, but sometimes her live performances can be weak. So, I'm skeptical about seeing her in concert because if I catch her on a bad night I'm NOT going to be happy. And, of course, my husband would never let me live it down.

THIS has nothing to do with MJB...
uhhhhh Bro Strawter....
I see that you are in the Nashville area. A sista will need some info (hotels etc.) for our next conference in 2004. I do not plan on staying at Opryland, USA....DON'T THINK SOOOO!
I hope Nashville isn't like Orlando. We couldn't find good ole black folks for nothing in the world. Those we saw LOOKED black, but were "not". We even crossed the RR tracks and STILL couldn't find the sistas and brothas.
Can you hook a sista up with some info?
Thanks in advance!

lol. I feel ya. Opyland wouldn't be a good choice. They're not really receptive of "our kind" staying at their hotel. However, believe or not, Nashville is very much black. It's a college town, so we have brothers and sisters here from all over. Let me know what you need and when, I'll be more than happy to assist you.
In addition, a number of my Alpha Phi Omega sisters are members of the Alpha Psi and Pi chapters of AKA at TSU and Fisk. I can also put you in contact with them if necessary. Just holla at at me.

Hello Everyone!!!
I can't agree with everyone more!!! I have been a huge fan of Mary J. since I got my first cd player with the "What's the 411"cd along with it. It was the best birthday present that a 9yr girl could ask for. I am now 19, a whole 10 yrs. later, and I am still a huge fan of ms. blige. I have even managed to get my aunt hooked on to mary's tunes. She is truly amazing in person; she sings with sooo much passion. Her songs are truly a reflection of her past life experiences. I went to her Mary tour show here in Nyc back in '00, and it was fantastic. She is truly a legend and will continue in the footsteps of Aretha, Patti and all of the other great R&B legends, but she has added her own Mary, hip hop flavor to R&B, which puts her in her own special category. There will never, in my opinion, be another like her. She is truly unique. So to Sharissa, "Keep it Movin" (off the No More Drama Album).

Speaking of Mary....
Has anyone seen the picture of her and her new beau in this month's Ebony? I will admit that I was a bit surprised. I don't know, I guess I expect Mary to be with someone like K.C., not Carlton. But here is a quote she made about him:
Blige says her fiancé Kendu Isaacs is "smart, and he loves God. That's why I'm with him. I don't care how much money he has. I don't care how good he looks. Ain't no sex that good."
So, maybe Mary has it all figured out and I'm the idiot for tripping on his looks. Hmmmmm, maybe that's why I'm still single.......... Hey, if she's in love and he's good to her, God bless them both.

I love Mary J Blige. Her voice is wonderful and the entire My Life CD is my personal anthem.
However......
I'm just waiting for Mary J to come out with a duet with E-40!
Between the two of them, they could probably make up a whole new dictionary.
