Unhappy Biggest Partier

Hey all! My name is Colleen. My grades second semester were pretty bad, actually horrible!! I need some help. I'm such a social butterfly, I won biggest partier and I can't discipline myself enough to make myself sit there and study. I HAVE to do better this semester. I love to party and thats my problem!! Are there any other Phi Sig Partiers out there that can give some good advice on how to help me manage my time next semester?? Trust me anything can help!!
LITP,
Colleen

I'm not a Phi Sig, but as a sister I can tell ya you're not the only one that happens too. I didn't party a lot, but overcommitting myself to activities got me in trouble. To manage your time well you first need to get organized. Carry a planner. Sure it may look a little geeky but it'll help ya stay focused.
Second, YOU have to have the willpower to make the change yourself. No amount of work will help unless you really want to make a change. Get a few sisters to help you stay focused. Perhaps set a few grade goals at the beginning of the semester. I like to reward myself with something special when I do something good.
These are all a few ideas I've found to work for me. Plus think about the chapter and how you want them to excell academically. Not only do it for you, but do it for them too.
Good Luck,
Hootie

I agree with Hootie, get an organizer. Also, look for help on campus, often workshops or advisors are available to help you learn how to prioritze and organize.
But also, limit yourself to maybe one or two nights out a week at most, preferably on the weekend. I had a soror who went out tues-sun, and nevertheless she faired quite poorly(lucky for her she got a boyfriend and settled down).

It takes determination, but you can do it...look to your sisters for help, that's why they are there(in particular scholarship chair, MAL and your sapphire sis)

Cool

Oh Colleen,

I could tell from the time I met you through IM you were a partier....but don't worry I am too. I don't what I did different but I got a 4.0 last semester and still went out to the bar like 4 nights a week...I guess I have been really good with time management....I am a senior and I was also getting up to teach kids everyday for my field experience, but you just got to figure out what you have to do and start from there. I lived on Post-it notes and to do lists last semester. It was probably one of my busiest years, but I did the best this year with a 3.8 one semester and 4.0 the second. I had exec. board the first semester and phc executive council, and the second semester I had greek week chair and division conf...and did pretty damn good at it also getting outstanding greek woman of the year through the Panhellenic. I know my philosophy has been that you have to get your work done before you can play...Kinda like when you were a little kid....I'm not saying the best option is going out a lot but you can still have a great social life and good academics, too.

The hell with studying. I say- let's party and get wasted all the time. We only have four years of our lives to do absolutely nothing but waste time before we have to get jobs and get a life. So for now, let's just party, drink, and socialize. Save all of that studying stuff for later. So to whomever posted this topic, my advice is: just drink. That's what I do whenever I have any problems.

Parties are fun, and you can talk about will power all night, but it wont help unless you do it yourself. Friends that will support you are always good too, so if you hang out with a less party going group, maybe it will be easier to stay home yourself and do homework.
