Have I missed my chance?

I spoke to the cordinator for the sororities at our school and she said that seniors make it through in most cases, but I don't really know what that means?! I really want to be a part of a sorority because of all the great things they involve. But I don't want it to be just any one I want to connect with the girls and really feel like they could be my sisters! Do you think I've missed out on my chance of ever being in a sorority?

You can go through recruitment as a senior, but no one can really say whether you'll get a bid, since sororities generally want girls who are going to be around longer than one year.

You have nothing to lose by just going through and seeing what happens.

Northern Kentucky just finished recruitment, so unless chapters are COBing, you have wasted one of your 3 remaining semesters by not going through formal recruitment this fall.

I'm a little to the south of you, at Transy, and we had a Senior go through a few years ago. She was really amazing, had several rec's to each sorority (we only have four), and was VERY involved on campus. She kept a full schedule all the way through recruitment, and ended up in her second choice. Our recruitment tends to be fairly competitive, especially in the last few years because we've had so many girls go through. I think it's always worth a shot! I don't know much about NKU, but I've heard that the Greek Life is similar to Transy! If I were you, I'd find out if any chapters are COB-ing.

Last year, my chapter pledged a senior. She was only around for two semesters (one school year) as a collegian, but now she does a lot for our chapter as an alumna. It's almost like she never graduated. No one can really tell you whether or not you will receive a bid if you go through recruitment; no one can predict that for anyone. It can't hurt to rush and see what happens. Best of luck to you!

Not to focus on the negative, but if she has 3 semesters left, and they just finished FR, the next formal recruitment will be her last semester at school. She wold initiate and then graduate. I think her only real chance is COB.

I did go through formal recruitment, and was only asked back to the sororities I had nothing in common with. But I think they all made their quota and most of the new girls are freshmen, or sophmores. What about informal recruitment, or do you think they just didn't really like me? But I honestly got along with one group so so well, I loved them, and they keep telling me we should hang out?! Would it be more likely to get a bid in informal recruitment, because not as many people go through at that time. I just know that if I have to narrow people down and I like a freshman as much as the senior I would cut the senior b/c they would be there less time so I get that. How would I find out if any chapter are COB-ing? OR should I just give up on this dream?

Do what YOU want to do.

Sororities will only participate in Informal Recruitment if they are not at total. No one here can tell you what your chances of getting a bid through COB because well, we just don't know. True, there will be less PNMs participating, but the spots available (if any) will be very few as well.

Check with your Greek Life office toward the end of the semester to find out if any of the chapters on your campus will be participating in Informal Recruitment.

If there were groups that invited you back and you declined their invitations or dropped out of recruitment, then it is difficult to have a lot of sympathy with your position. As a senior, your best chance of NPC membership was to continue to get to know and give a chance to the sororities that thought enough of you to invite you back. It sounds as if you wanted one or two particular groups, but the reality is those groups didn't offer you a bid, while some other groups did invite you back.

No one here can give you any estimate of your chances in informal recruitment. The only way you will know who is COBing is to check with the Greek Life office and tell them you are interested. They will pass your name on to any groups that are under total and participating in informal. However, I suspect that if any groups are in that situation, thay may be the very groups you rejected in formal recruitment. I know at least one sorority had the recruitment of a lifetime and will not be taking on any through informal.

I honestly don't mean this to sound unfeeling, sometimes no sorority is better than any, but it sounds as if you did have some possibilities in formal recruitment if you wanted to pursue it.

So what happened during recruitment? Did you get a bid? Did you drop out after being invited back only by those groups you "didn't have anything in common with"?



p.s. Please don't call it a "dream".... that makes you sound like a kooky 70-yr old woman who never let go of something she didn't get around to doing and sits around talking about it to her cat. There are bigger things in life than sorority so I wouldn't exactly call it a "dream".

Keep in mind that if you dropped out of formal recruitment, depending on what school you go to, your chances of getting a bid via formal next year might be slim.

Your year in school might be detrimental to you in either case (COB or formal).
