Grease: You're the one that I want

So I have to admit that I wish I could have tried out for this show. I am a huge musical theater buff. That is the one dream I would live out if I could, to be in a broadway show.

The show is already pretty funny. It kind of reminds me of American Idol, where there are tons of awful people and your thinking "omg" what are these people doing?!?

I don't think there is a age limit though. There is a woman going on the stage right now and she probably in her 40's. You cringe when you hear her sing. That bad.

edit: So I just found out that one of the kids who auditioned, his name is Max Crumm. I know him. When I was a senior we did The Sound of Music. He was one of the kids. I was assigned to help him change clothes (the kids had quite a few quick changes, so the girls in the nuns chorus were asked to help them change). I recognized him and was like OMG. Did a quick online search, yeah it's the same kid. So of course I'm totally rooting him on! LOL.

I really, really don't care for "reality shows", but for some reason, I got sucked into this one. It has the earmarks of something decent, if it continues like last night's.

Yet another BBC Spinoff...

The idea for this show came from the BBC show in which Andrew Lloyd-Webber was looking for a woman to play Maria Von Trapp in an ALW revival of Sound of Music.

Here's a link to that show:

As an aside, Sir Andrew allegedly knew who he wanted to play the part -- but show biz is show biz.

Stagebear, agreed! I'm sure Ashley A will be the first to go. I think Matt might have another week.

I really hate Austin, and I hope he goes soon. He has this obnoxious assholish quality that bugs me.

there's something about Austin that i like. maybe it's being in the entertainment industry that makes me like him. i don't think he an a**hole - i just think he has a hard shell (which can be condstrued as arrogance) from working in the industry.

I can't stand him either. I'll love it when he goes.

The local paper ran an article about Max the other day, confirming who he was. He he.

I was holding my breath hoping he would make the top group.

OMG I would absolutely DIE with Andrew Lloyd Webber there!!!!! Holy God! He is one of my all time favorite composers, I would pass out. I'd be like "can I pretty please be in Phantom. I'll just stand around as an extra. LOL"

edit: At the phantom part and OMG 3 of those guys just hit it. I wasn't impressed with any of the girls as Christine, but the 3 who sang after Max were just amazing. I was like OMG I can totally picture them as the Phantom. Unfortunately, none of the girls just made me think "oh yeah she's Christine".

I know that this show is an audition for an actual broadway show and that's more serious that Idol, but if you are going to let the audience vote, then don't overrule that vote.

Laura was really good last night; she was the only one who impressed me. I still dislike Austin greatly and I thought his performance was awful! Also, I though Derek looked like he was performing at a gay strip club.

Ditto!!!!!

Especially when I thought Ali (was that the one who was supposed to be booted but was saved) wasn't as good as Ashley. Then when she did her solo she just kind of sucked.

The girl who sang Jesus Christ Superstar, I can't think of her name, was awesome. She really impressed me last night.

i just have issues with the songs. laura did a good job with "jesus christ superstar," but they totally changed part of the song to make it easier.

my picks stay the same as last week, and i totally agreed with the bottom 4.

I love Kathleen and Juliana. I want Juliana to "get it" so bad because I think there's something very unique about her. I like Ashley S. too, and she was my fav for a while, but I dunno now.

I love, love, love Max. He's not your typical Danny, but there's just something so genuine about him. I really don't have another guy favourite...

And omigosh, I LOVED that Andrew Llyod Webber was there. He's so incredible! I would have been so nervous performing one of his songs in front of him. Esp since none of those kids have professional exp aside from Austin.

Laura is definitely the best of the Sandys.

As for Austin and Derek, the Mrs. and I thought they were the two best by far. I guess can see why some may not like them, but they are the only two contestants who have shown that they can sing, dance and act at the same time -- kind of a must for a lead in a Broadway show, especially if that show is Grease and that lead part is Danny Zuko. They are also the only two that have shown that they can take complete control of the stage -- again, a must for a Broadway lead in general and for Danny in particular.

I don't know if the contestants are picking their own songs or if the producers are picking them, but the others need songs where they can show that they do more than walk around the stage and sing. It's Broadway, not a concert.
