Hello to All!!

I must say, I've spent the last hour and a half poring through a lot of the threads in this forum, and decided I may as well make my presence known.

I originally came in search of my situation, which I find unique, but many of you may not. I've found threads that hit on one part of my query, but need further clarification... In high school I was the "extreme scholar", graduating top of my class. In college, though, I have gone quite the opposite. My first semester, I "tried to be superwoman", taking many difficult classes, and to say in the least, it didn't work to my advantage. I also found out that I have test anxiety, and though my gpa has risen steadily over the past year and a half since then, it hasn't quite made its way "up there". I also stay involved in many organizations on campus, including my honors program (we go out into the community as a small group) and the black student union. My honors dean understands my situation, coming from where I am (a terribly underfunded public school, where the graduation rate itself is pretty low, matriculating to a PWI), and believes that the steady increase of my grades shows the mark of a true honor student, rather than those who had opportunities I didn't, and simply maintain a good gpa.

Well, to get to the point, I'm pretty aquainted to a Zeta on campus. She invites me to a lot of their programs and whatnot, and when I come, she always introduces me to her sorority sisters, and makes sure I feel welcome there. **At first I found this peculiar, but someone in joking said that they could be eyeing me as a prospect... could that be?** After doing some extensive research on BGLO's along with others, I decided that this is the org I want to pursue. I'm entering my junior year, and though my grades aren't where they should be, would I possibly have a chance? What is your take on this? Should I possibly have a one on one with my friend to sort things out?
Thanks for hearing me out, and I apologize if this happened to turn into a pretty long introduction.

Wink

Your primary goal in college is to get a degree and maintain a respectable GPA, not join a sorority. I would focus my attention on my grades, as one must have stellar grades to seek membership in Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

ITA with TheEpitome1920. If you are struggling now (or rather working hard to compensate for the struggling you did at the start of your collegiate career) then this is probably not the time to be looking at joining a sorority. The sorority will still be there after you feel more comfortable with your GPA (or on a graduate level). That doesn't mean you need to stop attending organizational activities--in fact, you should be more intrested in attending, to ensure that you've made the right organizational choice.

Good luck.

My Sorors have given you excellent advice. It's true that right now obtaining your degree and maintaining your GPA should be your primary priority. I wish you the best.

Thanks a lot!

Funny that I anticipated receiving such answers, but I also thank you for that affirmation. I know that my grades are definitely going up, especially after these last two summer semesters. I just wanted to make sure that I'm not seeming to anxious to join when the timing isn't right. I understand that if it is meant for me, then nothing will stand in my way once I attain to meet those goals. Continue to be uplifting examples of real women, and I look forward to talking to you other forums.

Laters!
