I was shocked and saddened to find out that about a week ago, one of my fellow schoolmates had passed away in a rather unfortunate incident. Chris Dothage was an active member of the Beta chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma at Truman State University and well liked by many and will be greatly missed

(KSDK) - A 21-year old college student and member of the ROTC has died after being thrown from the hood of a moving car. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department is trying to figure out why it happened and who was driving the car that killed him.

Investigators say the trouble started on Interstate 55 near Arnold early Sunday morning. Chris Dothage and his friends were in one car, when another car filled with teenagers pulled up beside them.

The two groups exchanged words, and somehow the side mirror on Chris' car was broken. When Chris and his friends pulled into a subdivision, the other car followed.

One of Chris' friends describes what happened next.

He said, "When we got out of the car, they started saying, 'What's your guys' problem?' Chris said, 'One of you guys is going to pay for my mirror now.' And Chris got in front of them."

Another friend added, "Then they slammed it in drive and he couldn't move, so he jumped so he wouldn't get hit, and he landed on the hood of the car."

Chris held onto the hood for nearly a mile, as the car stopped and swerved through the subdivision.

His friend says, "Took him down the street, up Miller and left him on Vogel. Left him there to die."

Another friend says, "He was just laying there. He was trying to shake and get up but he couldn't talk. His eyes were barely open. We knew he was pretty messed up."

Jefferson County investigators say the two groups had never met before. They aren't sure if this is road rage or just an unfortunate set of circumstances.

Lt. Tommy Wright says, "Right now we're just trying to put all the pieces together. But we need some help from the public."

They want to find the car and the people who were inside. Chris' friends want to see them come forward and face the consequences of their actions.

Authorities are looking for six people in their late teens driving a black or possibly maroon four door car.
