Any Nappy and Happy Sorors?
Good morning (or afternoon) to my dovely, bluetiful sorors out there!
Since moving away from the Black Mecca to a town where the black population is only 0.6%, I'm finding it difficult to keep up with my relaxed tresses. For that reason, I'm considering going natural.
Are there any happy to be nappy sorors here? If so, how did you make the transition?

Hey Soror SoTrue,
Mama Cat SisterMoon used to have relaxed (I think--maybe not) tresses half-way down her back. Last year she cut it all off and is even more beautiful having gone au natural. Ask her on FW (you know who sistermoon really is, right? LOL).
Also, there are some sisterfriends and SisterSorors on greekchat that have discussed it too...I'm sure there are lots of good websites out there to make the transition from "fried, dyed, laid to the side" to "free, light and healthy", LOL

Soror So True,
I am a Happy, Nappy, Twist Soror, who will not give up this style for anything! Having been where you are and beyond, I decided to wear my hair in twist a year ago.
I let about 1 1/2 inch of new growth appear and then I had my stylist cut the relaxed portion of my hair.
I use a product called lock chocolate that is availble on the web (www.lockchocolate.com) to twist my hair. for a more funkier, liberated look I let me twists out for a couple of days and wear a curly afro ... I can't tell you how many compliments i have recieved. (and yes i work in the corporate world with top execs) I go to the hairdresser less now (only for a conditioner and cut) as I am able to do my own hair .... talk about freedom! and if i so choose i can wash, blow-dry my hair and use a flat iron for the "relaxed" look ...
I have some books at home that I can recommend you read ... e-mail me and I'll share them w/ you.

I am going to cut my relaxed hair off Friday and sport a teeny weeny afro. There is a messageboard at www.nappyhair.com. It's very similar to the messageboards here on Greekchat. Sometimes its peaceful. Sometimes it gets rowdy.

I've been to that site, and you're right, sometimes they get a little rowdy!
I'm not sure I'm ready to sport the TWA, but I'm ready to make that change.
